Firstly it took forever to get to the crime and I honestly didn’t care. Her descriptive words drove me nuts. She felt compelled to name what kind of car every one was driving and it just goes on and on like that. I gave up on the book because I really didn’t care.

A Kinder “Bridgerton”
Reviewed: 08-13-24
After finishing the Brigerton series, I wasn’t ready to leave that era. I saw this and decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did.
It is a lovely story about high society bowing down to the “ton” without most of the meanness that stands out in the Bridgerton series with some interesting twists. I am so glad that I found it. Oh, by the way, the narration was perfect.

I only made it to chapter four. The story wasn’t moving and the narrator sounds like a cop not a surgeon. I rarely give up on a book, but I made an exception for this one.

Story
Jimmy Tock comes into the world on the very night his grandfather leaves it. As a violent storm rages outside the hospital, Rudy Tock spends long hours walking the corridors between the expectant fathers' waiting room and his dying father's bedside. It's a strange vigil made all the stranger when, at the very height of the storm's fury, Josef Tock suddenly sits up in bed and speaks coherently for the frist and last time since his stroke. What he says before he dies is that there will be five dark days in the life of his grandson.

I have been a fan of Dean Koontz for many, many years and have read most of his books. But I this time was such a disappointment. The story was sooo slow, the narration was over the top,( but acceptable considering the content) and, it gave the appearance that Mr. Koontz was trying to set a record for pretentious words. It almost felt like it was written by someone else. I hate to say it, but I wasted a credit.

I don't normally write reviews, but I felt moved to do so. Ann Morrow Lindberg has touched the core of my being. I just wish that I had read it in my younger years. But at the age of 74 I can look back and see how right she was 50 years ago. Some things change, but so much stays the same. I am proud to be a woman.
