It’s nice enough. It feels like a hallmark movie with the love interest denying themselves happiness for whatever reason when literally everyone else is showing them it works.

This story is great. A lot of somewhat corny interactions, but overall the interactions are natural. I did feel the story rather short and find it just slightly concerning that Lucas didn’t try to see his friends after coming to the new planet and being separated.

From start to end. It’s just an experience. All things end up where they are meant to be in due time. It’s really sad to think about it. How often they just decided not to, but it’s supposed to mimic real life I guess. You find others and stuff for the meantime until you end up where you are supposed to be. Loved the experience.

The switch that flipped. Liked the characters, loved the chemistry. I feel like the counselor thing should’ve been explored just a bit more. My partner had been dealing with a lot in his own. I had a similar reaction. Get help while I wait. He didn’t like that and left. After months of actually getting help, regretted everything and wanted to get back. Told me a lot about his sessions.

The most crucial part to this how well the family comes together. The family is earned. The Big Eddie part is wild, and I find the ending sad and hopeful. The relationship between the guys feels just the slightest bit forced and not really built or worked on til near the end only being acknowledged 2/3rds of the way through. But the story is amazing.

The writing is fine. The story is good. I just couldn’t quite get the feel of Zav’s character. I’m certain that was intentional. Keeping a secret, being distant… however… the longing and distance we experienced was what we were introduced to. We don’t have a frame of reference for how he was and what we should be missing. I do think a flashback or two would’ve helped drive the nail in at the climax for the relationship aspect. The magic system is great. The political aspect was decent. Zav is complex and the best part of the whole book, easily.

The only part I found hard to believe was the captain keeping the prisoner in his quarters to begin with, but that strange decision led to amazing consequences. Concerns for Stockholm’s syndrome of course, but it’s not that kind of situation

The story was great when it was present and the lore was amazing and captivating. The romance is where it dips for me. The guilt that wracks the dom from the first book is mentioned but his actions… suggest different. Im sorry I forced myself on you, but I’m going to expose you to multiple situations you aren’t aware of and let you know that afterwards you could’ve said no. For consent being a concern, it’s thrown away especially with the power dynamic. The concern isn’t shown til the very end where it wouldn’t be necessary.
