Story
The Church of God Awaiting's triumph over Charis was inevitable. Despite its prosperity, the Charis was a single, small island realm. It boasted less than 2 percent of the total population of Safehold. How could it possibly resist total destruction? The Church had every reason to be confident of a swift, crushing victory, an object lesson to other rebels.

Story
Centuries ago the human race fought its first great war against an alien race - and lost. A tiny population of human beings fled to distant Safehold. Centuries later their descendants have forgotten their history; for them, life has been an eternal Middle Ages, ruled by the Church of God Awaiting, whose secret purpose is to prevent the reemergence of industrial civilization. But not all of Safehold's founders were onboard with this plan. Those dissidents left behind their own secret legacies.

slow, maybe to slow
Reviewed: 10-26-16
One of the problems with multiple plot lines that they start getting to complex for a 800 page book. this is starting to happen In David Weber's "Hell's Foundations Quiver" the number of different plot lines (At least 7 by my count) are spinning off quickly to demand their own books. This causes the overall tempo of this book to slow down to a crawl. I will give Mr Weber the benefit of the doubt and take this book as a transitional book in the over all story line. I will wait for the next book in the series, to prove me right or wrong.

a very disappointing squeal
Reviewed: 07-23-16
I am very sorry but it's time for Dr. Crew to go, wherever fictional characters go after they have outlived their useful existences. But with is novel Gideon has jumped the shark or in this cas the brain eating psycho alien tree thing. Sorry I just gave away the entire plot. The book contains predictable action, very predictable character interaction . Not even the commendable narration of Mr. Collinscould save this book.

The god Apollo, living (by his own choice) a human life as Pythias in the city, his true identity known to only a few, is now married and the father of several children. But a tragic loss causes him to become consumed with the desire for revenge. Being Apollo, he goes about handling it in a seemingly rational and systematic way, but it's evident - particularly to his precocious daughter, Arete - that he is unhinged with grief.

a transitional book.

This series has not "Jumped the Shark" yet. But; it is close. so far in this series our intrepid protagonist has killed the big bad BEM's, made friends with Cats and Chickens, has had a FTL raise in Rank from Ensign to full Admiral in 6 years, and now faces the scariest thing in the Known universe... "Parenthood"
Ms. Pearlman's narration is spot on and the story lines flows quit nicely.

Well Narrated by Ms. Pearlman who adds depth and feeling to the main characters. looking forward to the next book in the series.

I had great expectations for this last book in the Temeraire series. the book before this Blood of Tyrants:" was the best in the series. The plot of this book is disjointed and leaves too many lose ends. and after all his adventures our noble dragon hero ends up an MP? what a bloody let down.
Mr Vance's narration is excellent as always, but, could not save the book.
Oh well that's life, The series primmest is still a good one. and i still remain a fan of the series
