It is 1950. London is still reeling from World War II, and Margery Benson, a schoolteacher and spinster, is trying to get through life, surviving on scraps. Endearing, bittersweet life-adventure.

A most endearing novel: friendship of 'recent acquisition' which would last forever, two unforgettable characters like oil and water, exotic places, adventures, freedom. wit. A true journey. The Audible version is fantastic, comforting and bittersweet at the same time.

Story
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

Unforgettable main character, ambivalent.
Reviewed: 03-26-24
This was crude, heartbreaking, witty. A main character that lived in her very own terms, in liberty, with no attachments at all, nor to people, lovers, society, a true free-woman enduring life. I wonder if she was foolish, or wise, if she decided this or if she just let life pass, like in a current of a river. Still, this is an unforgettable story.

Story
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

This was dense, I mean it in a good way. This has substance and yet it feels natural, genuine, charming. A must-read and must-listen. This Audible version is entertaining, cosy, and provides so much to think about in terms of everyday life, love partners, society. The surroundings are so so atmospheric and relaxing and even though a lot is going on internally for the characters, this just flows naturally. A great great book.

Muy buen inicio y allí queda
Reviewed: 05-06-23

This is a clear example on how beautiful prose and writing can be enhanced to an unbelievable experience by listening to the book. Christopher Cazenove was such a delight to listen to. I simply felt in the middle of Sherwood Forest. The writing is so poetic, and sweet, and atmospheric: you can sense the dawn, the dew, the leaves, the trees, the forest. Christopher Cazenove has such a mastery and kindness in all the different representations. He even sings in such a natural way and which adds up so much to the songs described in the book. I adored Robin Hood and Little John, I constantly repeated parts of the Audio and enjoyed it while walking my dog. I will certainly add more Christopher Cazenove's performances to my wish list. I just traveled from Mexico City to the Middle-Ages-Sherwood MERRY MERRY England !

Story

Story
The passionate and tragic story of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff is one of the high points of 19th-century Romantic literature. In the relationship of Cathy and Heathcliff, and in the wild, bleak Yorkshire Moors of its setting, Wuthering Heights creates a world of its own, conceived with a disregard for convention and an instinct for poetry and the darkest depths of the human soul in torment.
