Interesting and Twisty
Reviewed: 01-23-23
I listened to this and the first book in the series. The writing, plot, and narrator performance are top-notch. My favorite part of these stories is the incredibly unique and funny analogies going through Bob's mind. He is mostly a believable action hero in the scenarios because of his military background...still...it's best to just enjoy the ride and not scuttle at what you picture his survival rate would be in reality. Bob is like a John Wick meets Zoolander in Home Alone. It's fun...Once you tune out F^€k 12 times minute.

Montalbano's latest case begins with a mysterious tête à tête with a Mafioso, some inexplicably abandoned loot from a supermarket heist, and some dying words that lead him to an illegal arms cache in a mountain cave. There the inspector finds two young lovers, dead for 50 years and still embracing, watched over by a life-sized terra-cotta dog. Montalbano's passion to solve this old crime takes him on a journey through Sicily's past and into a family's dark heart.

Adventures in Italy
Reviewed: 07-01-22
I like the narration. The style feels old fashioned like documentaries in black and white. I'm english speaking and the original writing is in Italian, but I would wager a good meal that not much is lost of the rich flavor the author cooks up in the story telling. I enjoy all the lead characters and the plot extras are interesting. There is humor and mystery and lots of food at every turn. It's all natural and flows easily. The plot is far from cookie cutter and there are real events from history woven into the fiction. I plan on reading all the stories in the series.

Story
When Matt Ballard was starting out his career, three boys were murdered in the same area, the remote and bleak Gibbet Fen. When the main suspect was killed in a hit-and-run, the killings stopped. But Matt was not satisfied that the real murderer had been caught. Over 25 years later, Matt gets a photo in an unmarked envelope. It's of the Gibbet Fen crime scene. And the picture was taken before the murder took place. More photos arrive, relating to the historic murders, as well as intimate pictures of Matt's very secret private life.

Enjoy the scary and mysterious ride...
Reviewed: 03-28-22
Joy Ellis is amongst the top five of my favorite mystery, thriller, detective writers. This particular book is my favorite of her works because it was impossible to know how the story could unfold. Even if you run the angle that ends up being the solution to the mystery, you still couldn't guess for sure the big picture. Thus, enjoy every minute of the ride. This is a story that would bloom on the second read/listen; knowing will allow you to relax into the characters and the wonderful detail. The narration is perfect - easy to listen to and spoken at a good pace. I also enjoy works by Christopher Greyson, Michael Connelly, and Krueger.

The narrator is excellent, and I'm thankful he was the voice of Jack , Alice, and all the colorful characters. I listened to all the books in order. I enjoyed each story, but this is my favorite of all the nail biting suspense and thrill. All the characters grow and evolve. I like that the end of one book is the beginning of the next. The romance is wholesome, and I appreciate the Christian element of prayer threaded throughout.

Narration is excellent. Easy to follow and distinct voices/characters. Nothing was offensive to the Word of God. This tells the love story of key characters leading up to what we know the result is recorded in scripture. Delightful, adventurous, suspenseful and well done. It's a great Story!!!! Gentiles and Jews alike could get something out of this historical fiction. I was encouraged by the telling of women chosen by God to fulfill their purpose. Recommend!!!

This story is interesting becsuse of the rich characters. Also because of the storyline which is very unique dealing with some weird mask war, abductions, drugs. I don't like the swearing, but it only occurs with characters that you expect would use that type of language. I found this author because of the narrators I like and am Sooo glad I did. I listened to several of her other series with Armitage as the narrator. All fabulous. I normally would not have selected this book because the listen time is under 8 hours, but needed a shorter listen for a trip with a friend. Paid instead of using credit. I look forward to the next book in the series.
