About this listen

DI Nikki Galena: A police detective with nothing left to lose, she's seen a girl die in her arms, and her daughter will never leave the hospital again. She's gotten tough on the criminals she believes did this to her. Too tough. And now she's been given one final warning: make it work with her new sergeant, DS Joseph Easter, or she's out.

Her partner, DS Joseph Easter, is the handsome, squeaky-clean new member of the team. But his nickname, Holy Joe, belies his former life as a soldier. He has an estranged daughter who blames him for everything that went wrong with their family.

Their adversary is a ruthless man who holds DI Galena responsible for his terrible disfigurement.

Not your typical "who don-it?"

Would you listen to Crime on the Fens again? Why?

Yes. Enchanting narration. Lilting, varied, rhythmic speech patterns.

What did you like best about this story?

Distinct, entertaining character development and interesting plot.

Which scene was your favorite?

Nikki is predictable, stereotypic hard-as-nails copper. Also adorable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would prefer a few chapters nightly. Pleasant way to wind down.

Any additional comments?

I like the British argot. Different and interesting.

Great next step

If you love Jackman and Evans, this fills the void with another likable crew. Narrator does a great job!

Narrator

Horrible narrator. Story was not too bad but narrator was very disappointing. Will not choose this series again

Full range of humanity.

Ellis developed a set of fully dimensional and rich characters. They’re didn’t develop into what I expected and I appreciate the extra things that make them not cliché. I absolutely loved the ending; it came out of nowhere and sewed things up nicely, but not too nicely.

Another great DI series for fans of the genre!

The characters were likable and we'll developed. The narrator does a great job with different accents and character voices. I'm excited to read the next installment!

Enjoyed this book

I am new to this series bought the first two in a bogo sale on audible. I did in enjoy this first book great pace and not too much introspection by the main characters. The narrator was good although her local accents seem to wobble between Yorkshire and Lancashire .Looking forward to the next book.
