Story
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Untuck this recording quality

Terrible audio quality
Reviewed: 07-22-22
The audio quality sounded as if the author/performer were recording it on her smart phone as opposed to professional quality recording equipment. That actually makes it really distracting to try to listen. In addition, there is no reason that the author need to continue to use profanity throughout the recording. We get it, the title of the book says it and she doesn’t need to keep repeating the , fuck (and all it’s iterations), dick, etc. She is presenting helpful information and it would be more palatable just having her presented with maybe every once in a while emphasis on the word. I can’t recall if I use the credit for this book or not but knowing what I know now I certainly wouldn’t have

I found this book riveting. I enjoyed the references to possible "real people" and their antics. I couldn't put the book down especially during the final chapters. The main character, Ellen Adams, Secretary of State, is very believable and we know where the writers got their ideas 😀. What a great writing combo Hillary and Louise make! Please, give us more!!!

This was a fun read -- I listened to the audio version. I could easily relate to the characters and was left wondering "what is in the safety deposit box?" Is more to come? I was surprised to hear the performer mispronounce "library" several times. At first I thought it was attributed to a certain character but it was used each time the word "library" was mentioned.

What’s in a name? A lot. The name Tinaca, for example, has been passed down in the Jones family for generations of women. In fact, the Joneses name a Tinaca every other generation, to let the name breathe a little. To let each Tinaca shine. And shine is exactly what Tinaca Jones intends to do.

Story
A savage satire of the United States in the throes of insanity, this blisteringly funny novel tells the story of a noble ship, the Glory, and the loud, clownish, and foul captain who steers it to the brink of disaster. Absurd, hilarious, and all too recognizable, The Captain and the Glory is a wicked farce of contemporary America only Dave Eggers could dream up.

Twenty-five years after her passing, Audrey Hepburn remains the most beloved of all Hollywood stars, known as much for her role as UNICEF ambassador as for films like Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany's. Several biographies have chronicled her stardom, but none has covered her intense experiences through five years of Nazi occupation in the Netherlands. According to her son, Luca Dotti, "The war made my mother who she was."

I found this to be a very interesting historical book about Audrey Hepburn and equal amounts of World War II history. I learned a lot about the Dutch resistance in the time of hunger and its long-term impact on Dutch citizens. It’s a really good read..

Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

The historical relevance of Nazi occupation of Austria, her relation to her first husband and his munitions occupation and exposure to her of significant conversation about THE JEWISH PROBLEM & her brilliant scientific mind AND to top that off the final insights as to her experience of sexism but her in during inference even on cell phones today! Wow, who knew.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Story
Featuring original music by Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon! It's 2003 and Romy Hall is at the start of two consecutive life sentences at Stanville Women's Correctional Facility, deep in California's Central Valley. Outside is the world from which she has been severed: the San Francisco of her youth and her young son, Jackson. Inside is a new reality: thousands of women hustling for the essentials needed to survive; the bluffing and pageantry and acts of violence by guards and prisoners alike; and the absurdities of institutional living, which Kushner evokes with great humor and precision.

Though this is a dark book about the realities of women’s prison life and the circumstances that led some there, it is well written and the performance gripping. Not for the lighthearted. it’s a taste of reality for some to understand the prison industrial complex over the years.
