Why are you so whiny?

52 isn’t old. I think Nora is a whiny idiot. She complains about her knees and back and vision. It’s distracting and I have to say that while the story and performance is great, that whining is awful.

I really like the story. I really do. But the fact that she keeps talking about how her knees hurt, and her back hurts and all of This other bullshit is pretty stupid. I am 54 years old and I don’t have any of those problems. That’s not old. 75. 85. Yeah, that’s old and totally understandable that you would have some problems. But there are a lot of people even in those age ranges who are spry and can do anything they wanna do. I feel like her constant whining about her stupid knees and her stupid back detracted from the story. Her constant paranoia about being 52 is ridiculous.

One of the things I enjoy about Rowan is her humor and strength. But her character seems to have turned into a whiny, selfish, shrinking violet. The witty banter is largely missing. Quinn, who seemed like a great boyfriend, is alternately supportively patient and condescendingly patronizing.

The narrator’s performance is great. Lots of good characters and easily identifiable. The stories are good, with interesting twists.

I’m enjoying the stories in general. The repetitive stuff though is getting tedious. Yeah, we get it. You don’t want to talk to people about magic. Yeah, we get it, You are clumsy. Yeah, your mom is a jerk. The squirrel stuff is beyond obnoxious. And I think that the cat could be a little less obnoxious and vocal.

Finally, the narrator. Oh my. The words “walk” and “talk” both have a silent L. You don’t pronounce it. STOP IT. Please. Please stop.

I love all of Amanda Ronconi’s narration, and I love the style of the books. Every single one I’ve “read” and that’s pretty much all of them so far. They’re funny, clever, and unexpectedly droll.

I always like these books, and I always like the story. But the last book left off with Jaya getting tenure and being offered an exceptional opportunity at school. She and Lane were getting engaged and moving in together. Now, it’s like that whole piece didn’t happen. That seems very disjointed and was confusing to me. The storyline was fine, but I kept trying to figure out why the things that I knew were happening before, weren’t even touched on, or explain it all.

The storyline was fun to, but I ended up having to buy the actual physical book because the narrator was so terrible. I couldn’t even listen. The voices were fine, but when she did any of the exposition, it was atrocious.

This being the first of the series, I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens to the characters. Eryn Scott has created a robust environment in which her main character, Rosemary, can have enough angst to keep the listener engaged without feeling like she's completely banal.

After inheriting a tea shop, for which she's not exactly equipped, librarian Rosemary decides to move back to her Grandmother's home, making it her home, and finds her life changed by the resident ghost...erm...spirit, Asher, that she alone can see and hear. He and Rosemary become friends and they work together to help her not only solve the mystery surrounding her grandmother's death, but to help her make a success of the next chapter of her life. The narrator, Jennifer Jill Araya has done a fantastic job of creating enough life in the characters that each and every one has their own personality and charisma. It's easy to see why the characters care about each other and the magnetism of each person in the book is evident in the 'care and feeding' she brings to the reading of the book. A perfect marriage of author and narrator.

Normally, a book like this would be my total jam. But this is disjointed, it has very little plot that can be distinguished, and it's practically impossible to get involved with. And, as has been mentioned a time or two by other reviewers, it has no end. It just stops. Hard pass. I've read a LOT from this author and enjoyed it before but man, this was a wade.
