Story
Killashandra Ree has spent ten grueling years in musical training, anticipating interstellar celebrity as a vocal soloist. She is young, beautiful—and still without prospects. After learning that a flaw in her voice will prevent her from singing lead, she hears of the mysterious Heptite Guild on the planet Ballybran, where the fabled Black Crystal is found. Mining this strange form of crystal is a dangerous occupation but to Killa, the risks are acceptable. Remarkably, her adaptation to crystal mining is unusually easy. The problem is—few people who land on Ballybran ever leave.

I agree with Lauren. I was very taken aback to hear the constant taking of the Lord's name in vain. To me that's worse than a bushel of damns and hells. Glad the others in the series to seem to do then same. At least not yet.

It was a delight to find a new cosy mystery series that was interesting without being gushy. Well plotted with characters one is pleased to care about enough to want to know more about.

For a romance, not bad
Reviewed: 12-08-19
I saw the damage romance novels did to my mother and have always shunned them. But this was a daily special so I bought it and gave it a chance. Rain is a very listenable author even though it is romance novel shallow. She has drawn her protagonist with such skill that even though they are romances, I fully intend to purchase others in this series because i liked that character!

A great new addition
Reviewed: 07-04-19
I was very pleased with this new addition to the Rivers of London. I appreciated the way the a author took us across the Channel into Germany and introduced a new apprentice and a different tradition of magic. If one goes into the story not expecting a Peter Grant book, it is a very satisfactory read (or listen).

The complete finale of the hit BBC Radio 4 sitcom- 2 episodes. In this, the finale of the whole series, we discover that for MJN Air, whether it's choosing an ice-cream flavour, putting a princess in a van or remembering your grandmother's name, no job is too small, but, many, many jobs are too difficult.

Reviewed: 12-07-18
One cannot help but marvel at the consistent excellence and mesmerizing quality of Ben Aaronovitch's ongoing tale of Peter Grant's London. The reader is gifted with an avalanche of knowledge while enjoying a romping tale of modern daring do. Holdbrook-Smith's jaw-dropping ability with accents from around the globe as well as the many voices he has mastered brings Aaronovitch's work to three -dimensional life in the mind's eye. This series makes one want to have a good rummage around Aaronovitch's head because it has to be a spectacular world in there. Now we have to wait for the next installment. I do so hate waiting. But i did make myself wait a good bit before listening to Lies Sleeping. It was worth it.
