Story
Buddhism asserts that we each have the potential to free ourselves from the prison of our problems. As practiced for more than 2,600 years, the process involves working with, rather than against, our depression, anxiety, and compulsions. We do this by recognizing the habitual ways our minds perceive and react - the way they mislead. The lively exercises and inspiring real-world examples Cayton provides can help you transform intractable problems and neutralize suffering by cultivating a radically liberating self-understanding.

Loved this book, exactly what I was looking for. A hybrid western/Buddhist take on mind training.

Story
In her late 20s, Cait Flanders found herself stuck in the consumerism cycle that grips so many of us: earn more, buy more, want more, rinse, repeat. Even after she worked her way out of nearly $30,000 of consumer debt, her old habits took hold again. When she realized that nothing she was doing or buying was making her happy - only keeping her from meeting her goals - she decided to set herself a challenge: she would not shop for an entire year. The Year of Less documents Cait's life for 12 months during which she bought only consumables.

Interesting story, few details

This is an interesting book and the authors personal journey is compelling. I was hoping for more specific information on the shopping ban and how to resist spending, but enjoyed the book. It’s part self-help and part memoir, less a book about personal finances.
