Acclaimed journalist Peter Doggett recounts the previously untold story of the dramatic final chapter in the lives, loves, and legal battles of John, Paul, George, and Ringo - a.k.a. The Beatles - from their breakup in 1969 to the present day. Called "refreshingly straightforward and highly readable" by the Daily Telegraph (London), You Never Give Me Your Money is the dramatic and intimate story of the breakup and aftermath of The Fab Four as it's never been told before.

Fantastic book, a page turner. The problem is that the reality of these musician's lifes is so ugly that it's hard to forget. These people file lawsuits like some eat M&M candies. The abuse they put their spouses through is horrific. Like Jack Nicholson famously said, "You can't handle the truth".

Story
A riveting political thriller from the journalist who covered the controversy for more than two years, Burned is the inside story of the shocking scandal that brought down a government. One of the most shocking scandals in Northern Irish political history: originally a green-energy initiative, the Renewal Heat Incentive (RHI) or 'cash-for-ash' scheme saw Northern Ireland's government pay £1.60 for every £1 of fuel the public burned in their wood-pellet boilers, leading to widespread abuse and ultimately the collapse of the power-sharing administration at Stormont.

The island of Ireland is made of a million iceberg tips. A book 1,000 hours long couldn't find the bottom. After listening to Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe, I was looking for a book post-Troubles and this was perfect. The image of a heating radiator installed on the outside of a building wall will stay with me.

Story
The NRA once compelled respect — even fear — from Republicans and Democrats alike. Once a grassroots club dedicated to gun safety, the NRA ballooned into a powerful lobbyist organization that maintained an iron hold on gun legislation in America. This influential nonprofit raised millions in small fees from members across the country, which funded hidden, lavish lifestyles of designer suits, private jets and yachts, martini lunches and Champagne dinners — while the group manipulated legislators and flirted with a Russian spy.

In We Don't Know Ourselves, Fintan O'Toole weaves his own experiences into Irish social, cultural, and economic change, showing how Ireland, in just one lifetime, has gone from a reactionary "backwater" to an almost totally open society - perhaps the most astonishing national transformation in modern history. O'Toole narrates the once unthinkable collapse of the all-powerful Catholic Church, brought down by scandal and by the activism of ordinary Irish. He relates the horrific violence of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, which led most Irish to reject violent nationalism.

I subscribe to The Irish Times because of Fintan. This book covers the gap between the Civil War and the Celtic Tiger most historians avoid. The story about Bill Clinton and The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers alone is worth the purchase.

And while The Troubles may hang over her hometown, Erin has troubles of her own, like the fact that the boy she's in love with (actually in love with) doesn't know she exists. Or that her Ma and Aunt Sarah make her include her weirdo cousin Orla in everything she does. Or that head teacher Sister Michael refuses to acknowledge Erin as a literary genius.

Required reading for those who think of Ireland as the land of Lucky Charms & car bombs. The whole book is pure insight, but "Part 2" is something special. The author creates several 2020 Irish archetypes then sends the reader through a hailstorm of modern pop culture on the island. I understood 40% of the references and feel qualified for citizenship.
