Excellent Historical Fiction

I enjoyed this story of the daughter and children of Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, and Mark Antony. Very little is known and the author gave a believable and interesting accounting of her fate. This is the first in the series and was well narrated, I look forward to listening to Book two. I highly recommend this series.

Rarely has an ancient text influenced the world as immensely as Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor (161 - 180 AD). In this series of personal writings and reflections, he collects his thoughts on Stoic philosophy, exploring themes of virtue, the nature of the universe and the meaning of life. This book has stood the test of time as a cornerstone of philosophical literature and a guide to living a balanced and meaningful life.

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This audiobook of meditative practices is based on the writings of Roman Emperor and Stoic Philosopher, Marcus Aurelius. Each chapter ends with thought provoking journalistic exercises. I found his words to be inspiring and I was amazed how his insights are still applicable today. I recommend this audiobook with steaddfast narration for anyone who enjoys history and strives to deepen their meditation.

Story
From brass knuckle beatdowns on the schoolyard to showdowns with the SEC on the national news, every second of Deaton’s life has been a fight for survival. This book is the raw, wild John Deaton story, straight from the source. Born in one of the worst neighborhoods in Detroit--the kind of place the city cordoned off with warning signs--and growing up surrounded by hustlers, addicts, abusers, gang bangers, and the downtrodden, Deaton became a fighter, with violence becoming second nature.

Story
Not much happens in Theodosia Stapleton's tiny Northumberland village. Certainly not to her. She has resigned herself to spinsterhood, caring for her ailing mother in the home of her grandfather, known to the locals as "General Contrary." When her dear friend dies and leaves behind a daughter, it's simple enough to take the child into her own quiet world. That is, until her ward's famous uncle unexpectedly arrives and throws Theo's tidy orbit completely off-kilter.

I found this audiobook by searching the narrator whom I enjoyed in many other titles. I loved this story! The corageous hero that arrives in Northumberland to claim his sister's child is not what they expected. Not tall or fair, he slipped in under the radar and into the hearts of those who recognized him for the man he is.

The Timeless Kingdom of Dembroch isn't just a tiny, cute Scottish island reliant on farming and fishing. It's past the Norwegian Sea, shrouded in storm and protected by the bolts of God. Its history is more magical, its current predicament chilling, and its future terribly grim. Only a dozen citizens remain on the crumbling isles. Deep in the woods lies a ravenous, unkillable monster. There is a famine of flames, a witch in waiting, a looming curse.
