Story
Introducing a new translation of Laozi’s classic work that makes the intimidating approachable and the complex comprehensible. Translated by best-selling author Ken Liu and read by acclaimed actor B.D. Wong, this new take on the Dao De Jing speaks directly to the sensibilities of a modern audience. Liu dispenses with footnotes and the granular details of academic debate in favor of presenting Laozi’s invaluable writing as clearly and colorfully as possible.

The volume is inconsistent and the music does little to help. It is irritating. On top of that the book is very disjointed. Very disappointing.

The author just rambles on. There is nothing to this book. It has been written as a laundry list and provides no value. To make things worse the person reading this sounds like an Ai, and adds nothing of value.

Story
This is the perfect introductory text for listeners who wonder what the works—rather than the myth—of Aleister Crowley are all about. Author Lon Milo DuQuette begins by dispatching some of the myths that have surrounded Crowley’s life and legend. He then explores the practice of rituals themselves, unpacking Crowley’s often opaque writing and offering his own commentary. Step by step, and in plain English, he presents a course of study with examples of rituals and explanations of their significance.

An honest deep dive into the life of Crowley and his magick. I am very familiar with Crowley and the OTO. I have not given much thought to the rituals we held in the Magickal Childe so long ago, now. Listening to this brought back many memories.

Story
One thousand years ago in the valley of Kashmir, a great Tantric master named Ksemaraja wrote his masterpiece: the Pratyabhijna-hrdaya, which means "The Essence of the Recognition Philosophy" - recognition, that is, of oneself as a direct expression of the universal divine Consciousness. Recognition also that this Consciousness is, in truth, all that exists, and that its five fundamental powers of awareness, enjoyment, willing, knowing, and acting are the sacred endowments of every sentient being.

Traditional Qabalistic sources (or Cabalistic, or, indeed, Kabbalistic - listen to this book to find out what the difference is...we know you've always wondered!) tend to be a bit, er, dry. Lon Milo DuQuette spices up the Qabalah and makes it come alive, restoring the joy of learning the fundamentals of this admittedly arcane system by using simple, amusing anecdotes and metaphors.

Story
Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan has translated Sefer Yetzirah, the oldest and most mysterious of all kabbalistic texts, and now brings its theoretical, meditative, and magical implications to light. He expounds on the dynamics of the spiritual domain, the worlds of the Sefirot, souls, and angels. When properly understood, Sefer Yetzirah becomes the instruction manual for a very special type of meditation meant to strengthen concentration and to aid the development of telekinetic and telepathic powers.

It is impossible to overstate the cultural significance of the four men described in Don Lattin's The Harvard Psychedelic Club. Huston Smith, tirelessly working to promote cross-cultural religious and spiritual tolerance. Richard Alpert, aka Ram Dass, inspiring generations with his mantra "be here now". Andrew Weil, undisputed leader of the holistic medicine revolution. And, of course, Timothy Leary, the charismatic, rebellious counterculture icon and LSD guru.

Reviewed: 09-07-19
Because of the publication date I had high hopes. Unfortunately the presentation is disjointed, and rambling. At times the book seems to be an autobiography as the author spends a lot of time lavishing praise on himself. The narrator's voice is flat. Listening to the book was a painful experience. Since the author spends an inordinate amount of time talking about varouus web sites, my advice is to spend your time exploring the material on the web rather than waste your money on this book.
