Story
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

A brilliant combination of novel and sociological term paper.

I purchased this book after watching the movie because I suspected it would be even better (as novels most often are) than what the screenwriters and editors could put into a two hour movie. I was beyond correct. This is a book I will listen to more than once because it is that much better than the movie. I particularly enjoyed the authors statement at the end, as it expresses the reasons she wanted to write the book so very well. If you have seen the movie or not, this book is a must read.

In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a Black African father and a White American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a Black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father - a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man - has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey - first to a small town in Kansas, and then to Kenya....

Sigh. I have never wanted to like Xcor, so I am unsurprised that JR was unable to get me there. There are cases when an author was actually able to force me to reassess a character I hate, Styxx n the Dark Hunter series is one, but for some reason I still hate both Xcor and Layla. In fact. Think I dislike her more than him. I just couldn't buy into the whole happy, lovey way JR went about it. To keep things balanced, JR Ward messed with some of my sacred characters which put me off even more. Having said all of that, this is still the BDB and I will still buy every book she writes about them for as long as she chooses to write about them. This just didn't turn out to be a favorite of mine.

After escaping from her palace/prison by burying herself under sacks of fertilizer, she ends up in a beach cottage on New Zealand's South Island. She's meant to be looking after a cantankerous widower. Too bad she doesn't know how to boil an egg.

I enjoyed this book. Not as much as some in the series, better than others. Why there was a narration change for this book is unknown, but it threw my enjoyment, so it could be I would have enjoyed it more if I read it. I really missed the player interaction in this book. Well past halfway before any interaction and then just with Hugh and Josie. Still hope she continues to write these

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge. As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn't always been on his brother's side. They've spent more centuries going at each other's throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he's willing to trade his life and future for Acheron's.

Where does Styxx rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Oh, well this is difficult. I lived the book, but would have preferred the other narrator for consistency of character voices. I have listened to probably 500 audiobooks, I would rank this in the top 10%
What was one of the most memorable moments of Styxx?
When Acheron remembers their real past
What three words best describe Fred Berman’s voice?
Calming
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Wanted to, but quite impossible. I did finish it in less than three days though.
Any additional comments?
I did not think Ms Kenyon would ever be able to make me like Styxx. Not only did she accomplish it, she got me to empathize with him and start to dislike Acheron. Don't even get me started on Rhyss

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, especially if they have already read the series. I loved learning more about the original love story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Maudie
What does Julia Motyka bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I originally read Almost a Bride. Then listened to the series on Audible. Julia does a fantastic job differentiating between the characters. I had no problem knowing who was taking while listening to this book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Snowberry
Any additional comments?
I received a copy of this book from the author as a promotional gift. There was no agreement for a review of the book. However; I felt honor bound to provide one. I would pay for this novella and highly recommend it, especially to those who have read the other books. It was a wonderful trip back to where it all began.

Enjoyable book, great narration
Reviewed: 05-15-14
Would you try another book from Tanya Anne Crosby and/or Laurel Schroeder?
Absolutely. I have always enjoyed Tanya Anne Crosby books, and have found a new favorite in Laurel Schroeder
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I have to say the most and least interesting aspects of this story are both the Revolutionary War connection. It could have been much more interesting, but was not as well developed as I would have liked
Have you listened to any of Laurel Schroeder’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first Laurel Schroeder narration, but it is not my last. I truly enjoyed her tone and character differentiation.
Do you think Kissed needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. Ms Crosby finished this story.
Any additional comments?
This audiobook has some editing issues. There are several points were there are sentence/phrase repeats, but this did not detract too much from the story.

Thouroighly enjoyed listening to this book
Reviewed: 02-28-14
Where does Teton Sunrise rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would place this book in the middle range of all of my audiobooks. Having said that, I have listened to over 300 audiobooks, and this is one I will remember.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved that this story was not at all predictable. I listen/read a very popular mystery series obsessively, and Ms Henderson completely surprised me in the end.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
While I really enjoyed Steve Marvel's voice, it is smooth and not distracting, I really did not like how he did Evelyn and Henry's voices. It is difficult to imagine she is raising her voice at Alex when the narrator is doing a high pitched whisper.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending of the book brought me to tears. Without giving storyline away, it is completely worth the journey to get there.
Any additional comments?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was my first by this author, but it will not be the last. I anxiously await the rest of this trilogy. Despite my reservations about Evelyn's voice, I do hope Ms Henderson stays with the same narrator.
