Those who survive the spire's trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire's goddess. He never returned. Now it's Corin's turn. He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess.

Inconsist characters
Reviewed: 02-19-23
When I began this series I felt excited simply because it was something new until it wasn’t. The magic system has a somewhat steep learning curve if you have never played dungeons and dragons but if you have it feels very trivial besides how the magic is attainted.
I likes many of the concepts of the story especially the spires but the story telling itself is absolutely terrible. The characters interaction are forced and at anytime the main character has vast knowledge while other times he seems dumber than a box of rocks. After reading almost three of these books it hasn’t improved in the slightest and might’ve gotten worse

I enjoy the story as a whole I don’t know if I really enjoy that the story was written in journal formatting. The reason is that compared to past books this felt more like a outline rather a story still a good read and a taste for more magic

Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Slow and steady

I overall enjoy this book. There was nice world building and character development. I was worried that this plot would be dragged out but I found the ending of this book to be satisfying and cannot wait for the next installment to the series.
Now some of my problems. I know this a romance fantasy novel but I found some of the spicy scenes to be weirdly placed. It just felt somewhat jarring at times.
The other problem I had was how little the characters had planned for any of the missions they set out to do or just the naïve belief that they would work. So when they failed it was not surprising.
My last complaint which isn’t as major as the other two was solving problems with magic. I felt like there could’ve been more creative solution then just bam magic hands.
I would definitely recommended this to anyone who loves Ben Barnes

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus, and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell - the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small planet home. Now, the Superiority - the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life - has started a galaxy-wide war.

I loved everything about this book from the world we travel to and the ending. I wish the book would’ve went further but at the same time I know it was a good stopping point. My only complaint is that the story felt short and more direct like the reckoners Trilogy where I was hoping for just a little more conflict. Overall the story is great and highly recommend the read

This was another home run in the continue story. Though there were some pros and cons
I’ll get the positive first . The story world building expands greatly and I love every inch of it.
Other characters grow more depth and become more interesting.
Cons in the beginning it is very slow going I didn’t feel like anything was really being accomplished until halfway through the book. It doesn’t have to be action packed every second but it just felt like I wasn’t getting any new information besides what ash was going to eat. Another thing that bothers me a little is how well holt can cook because he never started his apprenticeship but in the grand scheme it isn’t a problem because I like all the cooking that happens in the story.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series

I enjoyed Michael work with the dragon blade series and I found myself drawn into another one of his creative worlds. I love the magic system he has invented and even though the story has a formula feel to get through the basics building blocks of the story I know the series has already capture my attention and I can’t wait to see what happens next. For those who like a boy on a farm story then this is a must read
