Story
It's the dawn of a new era - and we're ready to colonize Mars. But the company that's been contracted to construct a new Mars base has made promises they can't fulfill and is desperate enough to cut corners. The first thing to go is the automation...the next thing they'll have to deal with is the eight astronauts they'll send to Mars, when there aren't supposed to be any at all. Frank - father, architect, murderer - is recruited for the mission to Mars with the promise of a better life, along with seven of his most notorious fellow inmates.

But XO, the greedy - and ultimately murderous - corporate architects of humanity's first Mars base made a costly mistake when they left him there: They left him alive. Using his skills and his wits, he's going to find a way back home even if it kills him. Little does he know that Mars isn't completely empty. Just over the mountain, there's another XO base where things are going terribly, catastrophically wrong.

long, drawn out build-up for a seriously nothing ending!
Reviewed: 05-13-25
narrator used virtually the same voice for everyone. quite hard to differentiate at times when everyone but a couple guys speak with the same Irish accent. ending was such a waste of time I returned the title. author needs to think about and plan for a great ending before even starting the book, especially when asking a reader to invest many hours. this was a tremendously (often meaninglessly) detailed book about nothing.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Story. Characters. Horrible narrator
Reviewed: 07-06-24
I really liked the story and the well-l fleshed-out, long books that were not full of fluff. The characters were quite good as well.
The narrator was unbelievably poor! I had an extremely difficult time trying to figure out who was speaking in most scenes, as there was virtually no characterization of any of the voices. Extremely poor choice I had to suffer through for 5 very long books!

Story
It is the distant future, and Baird is a loner, a part time spy, and a notorious alleged thief. “Notorious” for the audacity of her crimes; “alleged” because nobody has ever been able to legally prove she committed any of them. When the hush-hush agency known as the Toolbox recruits Baird, being a clandestine operative seems like a great way to get paid to do what she already does anyway. That is, until a mission goes wrong, and Baird is infected with a deadly virus.

Story
Life can exist anywhere. And anywhere there is life, there is home. In the swirling clouds of Venus, the families of la colonie live on floating plant-like trawlers, salvaging what they can in the fierce acid rain and crackling storms. Outside is dangerous, but humankind's hold on the planet is fragile, and they spend most of their days simply surviving. But Venus carries its own secrets, too. In the depths, there is a wind that shouldn't exist. And the House of Styx wants to harness it.

Stunned! What was he thinking?
Reviewed: 04-25-22
This book is a piece of crap! A truly wasted opportunity to make an excellent, and I'm certain highly popular, prequel to one of the most perfect series I've ever read. The only reason I am not returning it for a credit is that I loved the original Quantum Magician series so much that I want to at least reward the author for that work by allowing him to keep my credit for this waste of time, and because at least it explains the origin of the story as it pertains to Venus and the congregate. The editor that approved this mess needs to be sacked immediately and stripped of his ability to edit books again.
