About this listen

When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm.

His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real.

Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Destiny is calling. His grandfather's legacy awaits.

Embark on the adventure of a lifetime with USA Today best-selling author J.N. Chaney and Terry Maggert in this galactic quest for glory.

The story was okay, not great. What took me out of it was that the narrator hardly differentiated between the various characters and most of the time I didn’t know which character was speaking.

Okay story, but monotone narration

This is another of the sci-fi series formula approach, but it’s not bad. I’m enjoying it enough that I’ll give #2 a try.

Reasonable for a formula series

I've never read a book that seemed like it was trying so hard to be a Netflix show. the world is pretty cool and interesting. however, or protagonist is kinda boring and surrounds himself with boring people.

it is fine. I listened to the whole thing. it isn't so much one story as several episodes in a longer story. Try the Bobiverse. you'll like it better.

The narrator is just OK. Not great, but fine.

Meh... it's fine

This story gets an ok from me. I struggled so much just to stay focused on the story because the reader was SOOO boring. I am not even sure it's fair for me to leave a review on the story itself as the reader may have made the story that much worse!

Monotonous voice.

The story was okay, but the reader was terrible. He had no variety of voices, poor inflection, and basically pulled any interest I could have had in the story out of it.

the story was okay, but felt generic.

Easy read. Not well written, and so very much a young person’s fantasy. Even the narrator, who I usually really like, sounded bored/forced after a while.

Juvenile Male Fantasy

Very good story and very believable. The way it written makes it seem like it’s plausible and can actually be true.

Great story….

I enjoyed this story, but found the dialogue a little too repetitive. It didn't kill my enjoyment of the story, just a little exasperated! I'll still look for the second story.

A Little Too Much Dialogue!

I hadn’t heard anything from this author but I recognized the narrator so I took a chance. I’m glad I did! It is a fantastic and interesting listen. I recommend it if you enjoy so-fi.

Surprisingly good
