Story
In Crash Course, Ingrassia answers the big questions: Was Detroit's self-destruction inevitable? What were the key turning points? Why did Japanese automakers manage American workers better than the American companies themselves? Ingrassia also describes dysfunctional corporate cultures (even as GM's market share plunged, the company continued business as usual) and Detroit's perverse system of "inverse layoffs" (which allowed union members to invoke seniority to avoid work).

The thoroughness of the writer's dig into history was impressive. I learned so much from this book and yearn to determine what else he wrote that comes close to this book in terms of quality and interest.

For nearly two decades, the United States delved into the dark world of psychic espionage, recruiting individuals who used their paranormal gifts to transcend time and space to uncover the military secrets of other nations. When David Morehouse walked through the doors of the CIA's Stargate Program, he had little idea what awaited him: a paranormal hell that would bring him to the front lines of some of the most horrific disasters in recent history and nearly destroy him. At first unable to tell the shocking truth for fear of death, Morehouse eventually produced this shocking exposé.

This is an interesting book. It appears that the author himself read the book. His manner of speaking was fine, but he would go from normal speech to a whisper for a while, then raise his voice enough to blow your speakers, then back to a calm whisper. You will burn calories while listening to this audiobook while dialing the volume up and down. Again, good story, but absolutely horrible volume control. Note to editor of the audio: there's this neat invention called "normalization." Check it out and consider using it next time.

There were some intriguing details but the author's ego kept getting in the way, like he had a continuous need to beat his chest about how exceptional he is. Whatever. Let's get back to the story. I still recommend it.

I had to break it up a little, like by listening to other smaller titles in between chapters, because it was a constant pounding of new, valuable insight. This is one of those few titles I'm inclined to listen to again. Very good work...

Losing the Signal is a riveting story of a company that toppled global giants before succumbing to the ruthlessly competitive forces of Silicon Valley. This is not a conventional tale of modern business failure by fraud and greed. The rise and fall of BlackBerry reveals the dangerous speed at which innovators race along the information superhighway.

Boring book about boring people in boring company

The first five chapters can be skipped once you're clear that Lazaridis was good at fixing toasters and obscure hardware. This book totally glossed over the PlayBook fiasco. This book could have been so much better unless perhaps indeed they were as boring as I fear.

Story
There have been many books - on a large and small scale - about Steve Jobs, one of the most famous CEOs in history. But this book is different from all the others. Becoming Steve Jobs takes on and breaks down the existing myth and stereotypes about Steve Jobs. The conventional, one-dimensional view of Jobs is that he was half genius, half jerk from youth, an irascible and selfish leader who slighted friends and family alike.

I was not impressed by the other, more popular biography. This book hits the ball out of the park. I was especially impressed by the thorough background provided concerning Jobs' competitiveness with Bill Gates. I learned many, many new things in this book that had never been covered before. I've read everything since Jobs' and Sculley's books in the 1980's. Great audiobook!

It was amazing to hear about how the author handled situations when he was sure he was correct yet his clients felt strongly otherwise, at least until they... Favorite quote (something like this): "You come into this life having forgotten everything about the afterlife and who you really are just to have to figure it out all over again during this life and during your current circumstances." (Excuse the inexact wording...)
