Interesting case
Reviewed: 06-22-24
The case and story telling was pretty good. There was a lot of fat shaming and looks shaming that if found weird and didn’t enjoy. Saying things like she was chubby so no boy would want her coming from an adult about a child. Could have done without that aspect.

Story
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Unlivable main character for me.
Reviewed: 12-22-21
I felt for the woman in this story but also struggled to not strongly dislike her. She makes a number of racist or discriminatory comments and that is on top of just being kinda unlikable on a whole. Some points of the story would have been pretty good if you were able to look past only half rooting for her.

I have been following this case from the first day as a resident of the PNW. Kyron has a way of tugging right at the heart strings and this book really tells the whole story better than anything I have seen
so far. We need to bring him home!

I have really enjoyed a few of her books but this one was obvious for me even as it felt like the book was being obviously deceptive. I don’t enjoy it when I can figure out all the twists a long time before the book reveal. Maybe just me.

There were parts I liked, but overall I didn’t much care about these characters and I personally don’t like when I am not given the clues needed to ever solve a mystery. This one blatantly lies although the reason is given. Just want my cup of tea.

Story
Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline, and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors. Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl - but that’s just what happens with visitor Avery Greer and Littleport resident Sadie Loman. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable - until Sadie is found dead.

I loved it.

I saw a lot of negative reviews on this book after I had already downloaded it. I figured what the heck I will still give it a listen. I loved it. I do see where some of the criticism comes from. The narrator has a pretty monotone speech pattern and in listening format the time jumps can be confusing for a moment or two. The plot and story however are fun and engaging with lots of little twists and turns. Nothing to mind blowing but enough to keep me listening with anticipation. I found a connection to the characters having lived once in a town just like the one she depicted. I felt it was pretty spot on to what it can be like in a small tourist town when you are a year round resident. I will now be checking out her other books.

Obvious ending
Reviewed: 08-03-19
Was a good plot idea that was just way to obvious to have much of a climactic ending. I found myself waiting for the characters to figure things out long before they did and would even forget that didn’t know things because it was so obvious. Can’t say I wasn’t entertained by it, but couldn’t recommend it to anyone who likes a challenge in discovering a mystery.

As a teacher I admit that the worry and fear of what if doesn’t cross my mind basically every day. I wanted to hear this book to hear how the healing took place and hoped to think and ponder what was on the mind of the troubled boy. While it did have a fast moving plot and kept my attention it left me feeling like I wasted the time. If you just want a fast paced thrill story maybe you would like this. I personally don’t want to have that reaction to a story about this kind of tragedy.
