About this listen

If I stay, he will kill me. If I leave, he'll destroy Addie and Drew.

Jillian Kane appears to have it all - a successful career, a gorgeous home, a loving husband, and two wonderful children. The reality behind closed doors is something else entirely. For nine years, she has hid the bruises and the truth of her abusive marriage in order to protect Addie and Drew, knowing that if she left, Gordon would destroy her and destroy them.

When she flees in an act of desperation, her worst nightmare is realized and she finds herself on the run with her two young children, no money, and no plan. With Gordon in hot pursuit, there is only one inescapable certainty: No matter where she goes, he will find her. Kill her. And take her children.

A riveting page-turner, Hush Little Baby exposes the shame and terror of domestic violence as well as the disturbing role manipulation and sabotage can play in the high-stakes game of child custody. Suspenseful and unforgettably moving, it's a novel about the unbreakable bonds of family and the astounding, terrifying devotion of a mother's love.

Critic reviews

"A compelling tale of the deceit, violation and anguish that undergird the myth of suburbia. Redfearn's debut ratchets up the tension page by page, as husband and wife try to inflict the most damage on each other without harming the kids. Every character hides something, and each surprising revelation torques the plot further. The emotional and physical injuries mount, driving inexorably toward a surprising climax." (Kirkus Reviews)

"Using beautifully nuanced prose and taut pacing, Redfearn skillfully weaves a gripping tale about the dark side of suburbia, where appearances rule, perception is everything, and the lines between good and evil are often blurred. This is top-notch storytelling!" (Alyson Noel, number one New York Times best-selling author of The Immortals series, The Riley Bloom series, and The Soul Seekers series)

"Top Pick! 4 1/2 Stars! With clear, efficient dialogue and authentic scenes, this story rings universal. Equal parts suspenseful and moving, Redfearn's skillfully told, candid story flows easily within a well-defined plot, making this novel a stunning and captivating read." (RT Book Reviews)

Good story; DUMB woman

Enjoyed the story, but I was hit by the stupid moves by the protagonist. Seriously? As smart as her accomplishments showed, she did some pretty unbelievable moves.

Lots of the unexpected!

Not what I expected! Constant surprises and all kinds of twists and turns! A book that I was always trying find time to listen to just one more chapter! Recommended for sure! I like the performer. She was good except for when she played the voices of the children, which is usually always awkward sounding.

This book was referred to me in a book group I am in and it did not disappoint. It is intense heart wrenching. I hope my next read is as good as this one.

Chilling

Compelling but uncomfortable. Great narration makes this spine-chilling story hard to put down. It also expands on the reason that abused victims convince themselves to stay with the abuser and how those outside don’t even suspect violence.

Excellent !

This was a heartfelt, heartbreaking family drama. The story, itself, was so well written. The narration by Nola Zandry made it more enjoyable to listen to. Unfortunately it doesn't appear that she has narrated too many books, but I'll be looking for the ones that have.

Hang on there… it’s worth it

The only downfall of this story is the voices of the children. Not so good. The rest… seat gripping, jaw dropping, steering wheel smacking good. Well done! This would make a great movie!!

Hush Little Baby

The storyline definitely held my interest and kept moving right along with lots of twists and turns that you don't always see coming. My only reason for a non-perfect score was some of the narration was less than stellar. She tries to change voices for each character and at times it doesn't line up with what has been done previously.
