"possibly" the best of the 3 so far
Reviewed: 10-03-23
I'm going to skip over the narrator, as he is my favorite narrator of all time. And if you've heard him before, you already know he is fantastic.
keeping to the story, this book far outperforms book two. (for me).
I would say that it stands shoulder to shoulder with book one.

Solid yet rushed

overall it was a good time. my only complaint is that the book seemed rushed or hurried. So many extraordinary things happen to the main character, but he takes them all in stride without dwelling too much on the WHY and HOW.

I dont know of the series will end as a trilogy, or continue on. However this book works rather well in both instances. The performances are top notch as always, and the story was a fun ride. I wasn't "in love" with the resolution, but I was definitely "in like" with it. Overall a fitting piece to the One of us saga.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

My pick for best written book I've read
Reviewed: 04-17-23
I attach emotion, when selecting something as my "favorite". our favorite things often have flaws, but have sentimental value that out weighs that.
As such, this book is not my "favorite", but it may be something BETTER. This book, is the single best written book I've ever finished. the story telling us top notch. The way the author teaches you, while not making the book complicated, should be commended and praised. Truly a master of his craft.

Each of the Maguire brothers has his own driving, single-minded obsession. For Jonathan it is his magnificent, talented, and desirable wife, Harriet. For Roger it is the elaborate universe he has constructed in a shed in their parents' garden, populated by millions of tiny insects. While Jonathan's pursuit of Harriet leads him to feelings of jealousy and anguish, Roger's immersion in the world he has created reveals a capability and talent that are absent from his everyday life.

good slice of life book, but bad mystery book
Reviewed: 04-17-23
The reviews about this book being SLOW, are very much accurate.
However to build upon that, this isn't a mystery or a horror book as advertised. This book is a slice of life book. If you are looking for a mystery or a horror book, this is not the book for you.

Story
Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives - predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning - and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development.

the story and performances were great.
in terms of post show canon, this book made me the happiest of the book series.
however my one knock is that the ending seemed rushed. nowhere near as flushed out as most of the book had been.

this is a weird one for me, as it's not "really" an audiobook. (in the sense of what I've grown accustomed). it's a dramatization.
from that stand point, it does it's job well.
this felt like another chapter of the show. they introduced a new big bad. they maintained a through line. and like the tv seasons that came before it, they take you on a journey with characters you've grown to love.
the only miss for me, is the fact that I'm still not totally sold on dramatizations vs acted audiobooks. I mean, they have a lot of the original cast, why not just alter the writing to fit the acted audiobook style?
still a pleasure to listen to, though.
