Publisher's summary

Time calls the shots.

Unwitting time traveler Joseph Bridgeman is adjusting to life in the present and wondering if his traveling days are behind him. But when he’s contacted by the Continuum, an organized group of time travelers based in the future, he learns his career is just getting started.

The Continuum needs Joe’s help. One of their operatives is missing, last seen in 19th-century Paris, and they believe Joe’s ability to see the past might be the only way to find him. Teamed up with Gabrielle Green, an acerbic, wisecracking traveler, Joe heads back to 1873 on his most dangerous mission yet, one that will take him deep inside a burning opera house.

But how will Joe succeed when his new companion clearly hates his guts, the missing traveler disappears the second anyone sets eyes on him, and a familiar foe threatens to trap them in the past for good? With help on hand from his best friend, Vinny, and mysterious clues hidden in his sister Amy’s paintings, Joe must hone his gift, develop new skills, and figure out a way to complete his mission before the blazing inferno comes crashing down around them all.

Enjoyable Fun..,

While I find the entire series fun and enjoyable I do have a few thoughts just a few personal opinions which my or may not be shared by other listeners

while I feel Ray Porter is one of the best readers in the business I would have preferred an English reader with a London accent as the protagonist is English and a Londoner
I also slightly feel like a majority of the female characters in the series this one included are written with a certain sense of antagonism that I find grating it could be Porters interpretation also but it’s just a feeling I have towards that aspect of the series
But the science fiction is fun and the story lines well thought out
And Ray Porter is a good reader otherwise

Another brilliant story!

Loving this time traveler story line - so fresh! Not sure why the narrator does NOT do main character as british - so odd.

This Series Gets Better and Better

I have read each of the Joseph Bridgeman books and this third book builds on the story as it was established in "And Then She Vanished," and filled out in "The Shadows of London." The main character, Joseph, is complimented by the lovable and funny Vinny in each book and he is always sure to bring humor and historical research with him. Joseph's sister, Amy is back with new insights that unfold as the story goes along. Joseph's love interest still doesn't remember him from before the events of the first book and new to this story is the self-confident and irrepressible Gabrielle, fellow time traveler. The story is engaging, intelligently plotted and written, with a nice choice for a historical event and time travel . I really enjoyed the book overall. While each book will stand on its own, I do recommend reading them in order to better understand the time traveling process as envisioned by Mr. Jones and the changes that come about in the characters. I didn't think the narration was particularly good. Mr. Porter gives more inflection and enthusiasm to characters other than he does to the main character, Joseph. It wasn't bad narration, but I really felt it could improve.

Really good story

This was a great book but not as exciting as the first two. Can’t wait for the upcoming book to see how the story progresses

Good story-telling

I started this series with the books part of the "Plus" catalog and purchased this one - I was not disappointed. Recommended if you like sci-fi with decent character development.

Obsessed

Great time travel series, very much looking forward to the fourth book. This on particularly was even more interesting to me because of the historical fiction in it. Would love to see more like this from this author, and was so surprised in their note at the end they had never done a historical fiction that required so much research. Well, you are a natural sir, keep it up. The author is so skilled in trailing bits of the story over the series. Still eagerly awaiting what happens with the main love interest. It’s a great skill to keep the reader engaged. Agree with others that the American accent for the British main character is strange, and it kind of gets more irritating as you go, but not enough to squander the story.

My favorite in the series so far!

These books just keep getting better. Now that the series is three books in, the characters are richer and more lined out. Story is very interesting and engaging. A hard one to put down!

Narrator does a great Job

This series is not like other time travel books and makes it great because it is not predictable. Keeps me intrigued and characters are well written.
