Story
The award-winning film biographer presents a deeply-textured, ambitious, and definitive portrait of the greatest movie actor of the 20th century, the elusive Marlon Brando, bringing his extraordinarily complex life into view as never before. The most influential movie actor of his era, Marlon Brando changed the way other actors perceived their craft. His approach was natural, honest, and deeply personal, resulting in performances - most notably in A Streetcar Named Desire and On the Waterfront - that are without parallel.

Amazing…until the end
Reviewed: 03-02-25
I was utterly blown away by this biography, as it was so detailed, and in many ways is also a biography of early Hollywood. Where this book falters is in its deliberate decision to conclude the thoroughness study of Brando’s life at the year 1973, disregarding the latter 30 years of his life. SOME content from these final decades of his life are thrown into the epilogue, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that this biography is incomplete, and that really is a shame.

Story
To the wider world, Al Pacino exploded onto the scene like a supernova. He landed his first leading role, in The Panic in Needle Park, in 1971, and by 1975, he had starred in four movies—The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon—that were not just successes but landmarks in the history of film. Those performances became legendary and changed his life forever. Not since Marlon Brando and James Dean in the late 1950s had an actor landed in the culture with such force.

Considering Al Pacino is my favorite actor, I have been excited about this autobiography for almost a year, and it didn’t disappoint in the slightest. The content is so intimate and the way Al Pacino chronicles his life is beautifully read and sentimental in tone. For anyone truly wanting to know who Al Pacino is, the person, then this is for you and you will not be disappointed.

Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the kitchen table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the savory recipes and into the compelling stories behind them. Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about his growing up in Westchester, New York.

It’s always something special to see someone’s true passion be conveyed in some manner, and Stanley Tucci does that brilliantly with his book, which is deliciously narrated by him (pun absolutely intended). My only suggestion is to also get a hard copy for the recipes sprinkled throughout the book, cause there are some I want to go back and try out myself and only having the book on audio is not exactly conducive. Outside of that, excellent book and decadent experience.
