About this listen

The man who brought the kavorka to the Seinfeld show through one of the most remarkable and beloved television characters ever invented, Kramer, shares the extraordinary life of a comedy genius—the way he came into himself as an artist, the ups and downs as a human being, the road he has traveled in search of understanding.

“The hair, so essential, symbolizes the irrational that was and is and always will be the underlying feature not only of Kramer but of comedy itself. This seemingly senseless spirit has been coursing through me since childhood. I’ve been under its almighty influence since the day I came into this world. I felt it all within myself, especially the physical comedy, the body movements, so freakish and undignified, where I bumped into things, knocked stuff down, messed up situations, and often ended up on my ass.

“This book is a hymn to the irrational, the senseless spirit that breaks the whole into pieces, a reflection on the seemingly absurd difficulties that intrude upon us all. It’s Harpo Marx turning us about, shaking up my plans, throwing me for a loop. Upset and turmoil is with us all the time. It’s at the basis of comedy. It’s the pratfall we all take. It’s the unavoidable mistake we didn’t expect. It’s everywhere I go. It’s in the way that I am, both light and dark, good and not-so-good. It’s my life.”—Michael Richards, from Entrances and Exits

it began a bit slow, but giving his back story helped with the later chapters.

So much POW! Mind blowing, and an inside scoop of the life of Michael Richards. A MUST CHECK OUT!!!

This is a must read about the life of Michael Richards, the man behind many faces including Cosmo Kramer. This book had many ups and downs and really just mind blowing stories, so far chapter 15: The Truth was so raw that I even cried, that one was deep. Chapter 24: The Coming Home was so good and heartfelt. The infamous Chapter 27: Not Funny took more of an inside scoop of the incident and the aftermath. And last but not least Chapter 31: The Light was just amazing. Like really this is a must read and I hope to see Michael Richards one day just to shake his hand and thank him for this book. He really went outta the ballpark with this one. <3

Michael Richards is a deeply thoughtful person.

I had no idea how much work Mr. Richards put into developing Cosmo Kramer, the best character in television history. From purchasing Kramer’s wardrobe at vintage thrift shops to methodically rehearsing his lines and calculating his physical risks in almost every scene he was in, really paid off for us, the fans!

My wife and I very much appreciated the effort he put forth to enrich our lives for so many Thursday nights.

My only wish for Michael Richards is that he would be less hard on himself. He is so well read, having studied every philosophical and religious subject on the planet-perhaps that has led to his constant wondering/questioning about everything. Weird analogy here, but personally, I’ve always appreciated a restaurant that doesn’t boast a crowded 15 page menu. I’ve always had a much better dining experience when the restaurant only offers what it’s great at. My wish for this thoughtful man is that he finds the simplicity, clarity, and ultimately, the happiness he’s been searching for all of his life.

If I ever get a chance to shake his hand in person, I’d thank him for sharing his story and for making some wonderful memories for our family as we all gathered around for the last of the “must see tv” series in history!

p.s. I can’t imagine not listening to this book rather than reading it. His voice adds another layer of emotional texture while consuming his story.

His character development and spirituality are so intricate

He tells his story so well with articulation and inflection! He dives deep into his eccentric spiritual journey and interests. He’s poetic, artistic and humble. I hope he chooses to dive into the Christian and secular writings/evidences of Christianity and finds deep peace through Jesus.

In depth view of a fascinating life lived

Hearing Michael Richards himself narrate his story is everything I imagined it would be. Very tastefully done. This was my first audible book experience, I loved it!

A Humble, Inquisitive, Artist

I was curious about Mr. Richards life and when I heard of this book, I knew I'd have to read/listen to it. I've always loved Seinfeld, it's one of my favorites, if not, my favorite show. But I've also enjoyed UHF and several of Mr. Richards other works. When the Laugh Factory incident happened I was concerned about him more than anything. I assumed he was going through things in his life and wished the public and/or media wouldn't treat him the way they did. As I finished this book, I understand that he's a humble artist. The book consists of him explaining every thought process he's had through his life & career. At moments I thought, this would be a good section to have acting students read & reflect one. At other moments, I related to him. the thoughts, the second guessing, etc. It'd be great to one day meet him, just to say thanks for his work & wish him & his family the best. I recommend this book to any artist, actor, tv fan, movie fan, or anyone who wants to learn & get the most they can out of life.
