Nice story, superbly read by Michael Crouch. But when he stops reading, the story is not finished. None of the plot, none of the character issues has been resolved. Supremely irritating.

I loved this. 2 unforgettable characters, rich, satisfying story. Crouch’s performance, always excellent, is just superb.

I really loved this timely book about a transgender middle school girl, who’s fragile, frightened and easily upset, as kids are. But her inner toughness to be who she is, and the help of her supportive family and friends help her cope. The characters are vividly drawn; the listener feels a strong connection to all of them. This book is aimed at tweens, I guess, but adults will love it, and be changed by it as well. The narration is spot on as well.

When the story stops on the last page, the reader still doesn’t know what it was all about. And the book is written in the present tense, always irritating, but especially so when the author is weaving together ‘then’ and ‘now’ narratives. Ms. Campbell, as always, is excellent.

This is the most moving audiobook I have ever listened to. It's a great story about baseball and courage and love. A satisfying plot and cast, especially Jeremiah, a character you'll never want to forget. AND a superb, pitch-perfect performance by Michael Crouch, which just makes it almost too much. A perfect book for the kid you love, and perhaps a perfect book for us adults who need to remember the nobility of team sport at its best. Highest possible recommendation.

This is a tender, gently paced story about the power of love. Memorable characters. The reader did a beautiful job...just right. This and Leslie Connors's All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Smith make a wonderful pair. Don't miss either one!

Very nice reading of a good story, except for the sucky, sucky non-ending ending. Grr. This reader hates last chapters with unfinished business, especially when it is gratuitous, as it is here. Supremely irritating.

This is one of of the most powerful novels I have ever read, and it joins 5 other recent, wonderful war novels: Pax, Echo, The War That Saved My Life, The Book of Aron and Salt to the Sea. These all are worth your time. I didn't like the voice the reader used for Jakob...made him sound stupid and brutish to my ears. But you will NEVER forget the scene where Jakob tells his brother that he loves him for the last time.

This is an absolutely beautiful performance of a powerful, haunting story. Right up there with The Book of Aron and The War that Saved My Life and Echo....a quartet of life changing books about WW II, all recent. You'll carry these characters in your heart for a loooong time.

This is a gem. Beautifully paced with some characters you won't forget. Beautifully read, just right. I personally would have liked two more chapters ... one final chapter from Pax, and another to tie up loose plot lines.
