A good story on mind uploading
Reviewed: 06-23-23
This is a very approachable book on the subject of mind uploading and transhumanism and I would recommend it to somebody in the teenage age range.
Maybe an older teenager due to some of the sex and sexuality described in A PG 13 way

Story
After having his heart trampled on by his cheating ex, Carter Ogden is afraid love just isn’t in the cards for him. He still holds out hope in a tiny corner of his heart, but even in his wildest dreams he never thought he’d meet the Crown Prince of England, much less do a lot more with him. Yes, growing up he’d fantasized about the handsome, openly gay Prince Edgar, but who hadn’t? When they meet by chance at an event Carter’s boss is organizing, Carter’s sure he imagined all that sizzling chemistry. Or was it mutual?

hilarious and simple story
Reviewed: 05-15-22
I laughed so hard at some points that I had to STOP. not suitable for the work place.
my worst complaint is that the story has no strong antagonist, all the forces working against them are people's enmity rather than overt actions. so ultimately the characters are standing in their own way.

this is one of my favourite books and narrator
Reviewed: 03-19-22
this book is an attempt to get people to read about proper thinking and mental Judo in a fun and familiar setting.
if you're a fan of Harry Potter you'll love this book because it explore as many aspects of the original in an interesting and Innovative way, with many preconceived notions about the story being shown in a new light.
the narrator does an excellent job portraying the wide cast of characters with unique voices that helped to keep some rather complex scenes consistent.

got this book as part of a promotion from the narrator.
was it good? maybe for someone else but it wasn't really my kind of story. my biggest complaint is that this isn't a Sci-Fi story is a western with sci-fi elements and I don't like westerns, the story was competently written for a western themed Romance, if predictable and unoriginal at times, jilted ex-lovers, Claim Jumpers , I'm surprised there wasn't a snake in someone's boot.
as far as the narration goes it was spot-on, the narrator has a very distinct voice for every character and they are well differentiated. well spoken and well enunciated dialogue is consistent throughout the book with a good degree of emotion conveyed through the characters.
all that being said my only complaint is that this book is that this is clearly a western-style story that has been adapted with a few sci-fi bits tacked on as set dressing.

I liked everything in the book, I just wish there was a bit more of it. all of the side Adventures the characters go on are completed very quickly we don't get to see much of the in-depth adventuring.

an interesting new series for an author I love

if you're Peter F Hamilton man you'll read this book eventually so why not.
this book is not as thrilling as other books I've read from the same author but a solid First Act and what would hopefully be a much larger story.
My only real complaint is that the book is a mystery novel where the reader has no possibility of guessing who done it before the very end, important information is held in the minds of one of the characters and they don't want anyone to know.

Read the best, this is better than the rest
Reviewed: 06-22-19
this is a good not great litrpg, that I'm willing to cut a lot of slack because it was a lot of fun to read.
The good:
I like that all the main characters were fairly well-developed, even though the story was told from one person's perspective we got to get a pretty good feel for the rest of the party. all the main characters seem like well-rounded realistic characters.
I really like the animal transformation aspect of the main character strategies. in the story they were quite well used both combat and non combat scenarios and I thought it was all very fun concept that the author seem to have put a lot of work into getting right.
the bad:
the main character is a oppressed minority race that is blindly mistrusted, and the author does nothing to make me feel the normalize racism that this implies. the few attempts at racism the story are lackluster at best.
the character seemed really aware that they have video game concept in the world protecting them. For example they were surprised to find out that death was real, and some combats they relied on status menus to check on enemy status.
The unreality of there View of the world really took me away from the story for a while.
Final review I had a lot of fun with this book despite its flaws and I will look forward to reading the sequel.

Drew Hayes is an author who I've quite enjoyed is books usually have a complex and unfolding story that gets added on with each new book in a series, except for this one.
This Book continues the story but does little else. long story short I feel that if you read the first few chapters and the last few chapters you could skip this entire book otherwise and move on to the next whenever that will be released.

Story
The Solarian League's navy counts its superdreadnoughts by the thousands. Not even its own government knows how enormous its economy truly is. And for hundreds of years, the League has borne the banner of human civilization, been the ideal to which humanity aspires in its diaspora across the galaxy. But the bureaucrats known as the "Mandarins," who rule today's League, are not the men and women who founded it so long ago. They are corrupt, venal, accountable to no one...and they've decided the upstart Star Kingdom of Manticore must be destroyed.

be prepared to sit through a lot of meetings.
Reviewed: 10-28-18
you could easily cut 70% of this book out and not lose the important aspects of the plot.
I'm serious this book is almost all meetings and it's all tell don't show. events happened in the story and we get to read about the after-action reports.
Additional complaint is that the narrator doesn't make the effort to differentiate characters Beyond the main protagonists. This book is filled with side stories about characters who appear briefly and then come back and they all sound very similar to each other.
