I liked that the characters and suspects were well-written and I really didn’t figure out the culprit until they almost revealed themselves. I am not sure how I feel about thinking the sleuth is with the wrong guy…..might make for good future installments

Shelby works as a dog walker in northern California, and she’s just finished up her bi-weekly trip to the park with a husky named Pluto. When she brings him back to his house, she finds his owner - Todd Burke, a well-known local businessman and founder of an organic supplements company - lying on the bathroom floor, dead. A detective arrives on the scene. As she interviews Shelby, the body is inspected by a medical examiner, and more cops search Todd’s home, it becomes clear that the victim’s life was less picture-perfect than his clean-cut persona might lead you to believe.

Story
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.

It was interesting and sort of….cute? I’m definitely more interested in reading The Handmaid’s Tale now so there’s that.🤷🏾♀️

Blackmailed into accepting a new mission, Joe is flung back to 1960s London where he comes face-to-face with a ruthless gangster and witnesses the brutal murder of an innocent woman. Another hit! I love this series SO much!
Reviewed: 04-19-22
I am enthralled with this series. I love the introduction of new characters, the adventure and mysteries the main character gets wrapped up in, the action and adventure entailed in the time travel and mystery, the ongoing overarching mystery that gets teased out, and the ending always leaving you satisfied while excited for more.
The only critiques I have are that I really couldn’t wrap my mind around how one person in the present knew about what was going on and when it was all resolved in the end was aware of and anticipating discovering the change to the timeline with the main character. Wouldn’t anyone who hadn’t been on the trip been unaware of the changes to history? Yet, (and this is how I’m explaining it away to myself so I continue to LOVE it), since others are also traveling through time and aware of this being a reality maybe anyone who has traveled through time now has the ability to sense it and reconcile changes? I dunno, I’d like an explanation but….. I could get past it.
The other critique isn’t new….I ADORE Ray Porter! However, I hate that everyone BUT Joe has British accents and it’s weird to hear him use British phrases with an American accent.😕 It is very clear that this takes place in the UK. His friends and family all have British accents. Why does he have an American accent? And sometimes his accent would dip into British. I thought with the first book that perhaps (and this was me trying unsuccessfully to rationalize it to myself so I continue to LOVE it), it’s to make the main character stand out? However, characters from other countries have appropriately matching accents. If it’s to highlight his character then why couldn’t he have some other English accent like Canadian, Irish, or Scottish?🤷🏾♀️ This book is so well-written and engaging its only a slight distraction with the audiobook and I may be the only one distracted but I AM very curious about this.🤔
