About this listen

When the body of gentlewoman is found in a Romani caravan, and a second woman from the village of Birch Hill goes missing, Redmond and Haze must peel back the layers of lies, prejudice, and misdirection to discover who’s truly behind the crimes.

With little connection between the victims, no obvious motive, and few clues, the case is their most challenging to date. Can they solve it before the killer strikes again?

Perfect for fans of Anne Perry and C.S. Harris.

Wonderful historical "timetravel"

I love everything about these series. I mostly listen to murder mysteries set in either the US or Britain between 1800 and 1935. I love traveling back in time especially to Victorian times. This is a wonderful series and the main characters really come to life. I highly recommend!

The series continues to move forward

I just finished the 4th book. It was even better than the previous 3 books. The author does an good job of weaving the story and the ending was well done. I look forward to listening to the 5th book

More adventures for Daniel and Jason

I loved this historical whodunit staring Captain Jason Redmond and Constable Daniel Haze. Like the first three books in the series, it had a layered storyline, an intriguing mystery, surprising plot twists, and suspense. One again, I was pulled into the story from the first page and couldn’t put it down until they wrapped up the case. Jason and Daniel are portrayed as real, relatable and complex people who have flaws and scars, but are really just trying to do their best as messy humans. I am especially enjoying their struggles with society rules and morals that do not seem to match their internal compasses. Captain Jason Redmond is an American surgeon who is currently living in England after inheriting the estate and title of his grandfather. His household is full of unusual people and not run like a “normal” estate for nobility. Daniel Haze is still working as a detective inspector in nearby Essex and continues to give his all to his assigned cases. This story takes place approximately 5 months after the last book. Jason and Daniel once again work together to solve a murder after a quiet, married woman is found garroted in a caravan of the visiting Romani. To add to the mystery another local woman went missing the same day. The investigation leads Daniel and Jason to unlikely places, many dead ends, and surprising revelations. The smaller side personal story arcs which just enrich the main plot line continue with Jason‘s engagement to Katherine, Daniel‘s marriage and impending fatherhood, and the men’s deepening friendship. The story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters, and a captivating storyline. I am excited to read more to this series.

Wendy Wolfson did a phenomenal job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

Love Redmond and Haze!

The team of Redmond and Haze continues to delight! Each case to be solved leaves you guessing until the end. Irina Shapiro takes the team to many different settings and this one of the Romany brightly colored caravans was a great setting! Her sensitivity to the gypsy people was appreciated. The only problem is the books end too soon and I have to wait for the next one!!

I truly enjoy this series and will continue to listen through its entirety.

To me, the narrator makes Lord Jason Redmond sound cold and without much compassion which is not true.
