Many books based on blogs are horrible. Repetitive, redundant and poorly written. This one actually starts out that way, but then turns into a valuable collection of golf wisdom. By the end I was a thankful student. Well worth the credit.

The problem Nicole’s in the book are not new, but they are organized and delivered in an organized in an effective way. Worth reading over and over until the actions and mindset are second nature.

The narrator is indeed terrible. He sounds like a nerd trying to sound tough. But don’t let that keep you from this no-nonsense tour de force. I have read almost every survival manual out there and there are some other gems, but pound for pound, this one delivers the most applicable, real world punch you need if you truly want to develop the skills needed to survive. The first three chapters alone are worth the money.
If you want the best information out there on surviving almost anything, this is it.

Dr. Rendsburg presents the astonishing facts surrounding this monumental find in as bias-free manner as I believe is possible. That is not to say that his beliefs are not driving his interpretation of the data, but that is truly impossible to avoid. What I mean is that there are moments that I felt he was of one point of view, then other times it could be inferred he was of a different point of view. While this does not mean he is correct, it does reveal a heart for the truth. I respond well to this manner of delivery and his excitement for the subject matter is clear and even more importantly, contagious. Dr. Rendsburg is, in my worthless opinion, a brilliant example of the type of scholar the world needs in such arenas. As objective as possible, but still passionately pursuing the truth. Passion and truth need not be mutually exclusive.
If you want a solid overview of the most relevant portions of the Dead Sea Scroll story, this is a wonderful place to begin. No matter what your background might be. Highly recommended.

This book really took me by surprise. I've fallen back in love with baseball and my childhood memories of watching The Big Red Machine in the 70s prompted me to dig back through the history of baseball. This audiobook was so touching because you can hear the reverence and love for the game in the voices of these men. They share stories and perspectives that would have been lost forever without this record. If you love baseball, and storytelling for that matter, you will love this book. Highly recommended.

I read this stand alone last. Knowing the history of the First Law world made it an outstanding experience. Lamb/The Bloody Nine might be my favorite character in fantasy. Just incredible. Like all of his work, Abercrombie gives us powerful characters and laughs by the dozens. This one is my favorite because the narrative is more satisfying overall. Yes, a bit more traditional, but that’s why they are traditions, they work. Can’t miss this one of you like his other work.

This book was so much fun to try and figure out what was fact and what fiction. I found myself Googling his professional credentials to figure out where the fiction actually begins. It was fun.

Horowitz obviously knows how to plot and devise a murder story, he has been doing so for television (Foyle's War) for years. But what hit me hard was his ability to get me to care about characters who didn't necessarily reveal themselves as typical heroes. I am so fed up with every writer thinking that their protagonist has to be messed up in some irreparable way. This has flooded us with characters we don't even like, let alone admire.

But Horowitz somehow has me caring for him and his abrasive detective without making a big deal out of how they are flawed. In fact, he just allows us to follow them around as they bump into life as it happens and we end up caring for them not because they have some fatal flaw, but because they are simply human.

When you pair this with a deliciously inventive murder plot, it all plays out in a refreshingly familiar, yet fresh way. If you are looking for a good traditional murder mystery with a slightly different flavor, spend a credit.

Not as good as Darkness Has a Name

I liked it overall, but it has a lot of dead air and space between chapters. Almost like they were padding the story. It also had very little about the trial and too much about the victims’ lives. At times it felt a bit exploitative. The facts of the case were lost in melodrama. It just wasn’t as good as the other Audible Original about the Golden State Killer.

I felt like I was listening to a documentary. The interviews with victims, officers, and other individuals involved in this case really flowed well and moved the story along like a thriller. Honestly, the editors and sound techs deserve the kudos for this book. Mixing all of those interviews without losing clarity or have the levels be all over the place was an incredible feat.

Beyond the production, the story is simply fascinating and heart-breaking at the same time. We just don't understand all of the things law enforcement go through as they do their best to catch criminals. I found myself bursting with respect for several of these individuals. A great listen.
