Story
The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

Story
So begins a press release from a mysterious group known only as “The Five,” shortly after a vicious predator is murdered in San Francisco. The Five is made up of vigilante killers who are very bored…and very rich. They target the worst of society—rapists, murderers, and thieves—and then use their unlimited resources to offset the damage done by those who they’ve killed, donating untraceable Bitcoin to charities and victims via the dark net. The Five soon become popular figures in the media …though their motives may not be entirely pure.

Good Book, a little too political
Reviewed: 11-22-22
I enjoyed the book, loved the narrator, he is the best. I could have done without the liberal political slant. I listen to books as an escape, if I wanted to listen to the news, I would.I don’t need a liberal millionaire author insulting half the country with his left leaning ideology and calling people fascists who don’t agree with his views.

Story
There’s chaos in Hollywood at the end of the New Year’s Eve countdown. Working her graveyard shift, LAPD detective Renée Ballard waits out the traditional rain of lead as hundreds of revelers shoot their guns into the air. Only minutes after midnight, Ballard is called to a scene where a hardworking auto shop owner has been fatally hit by a bullet in the middle of a crowded street party.

Good, not the best
Reviewed: 09-10-22
The story was interesting, but I could do without the political commentary. A little slow in the middle, ends strong.
Narration with 2 people doesn’t really mesh. The Bosh inserts are flat and you can tell were done separate from main narrator.

Great Story, could have done with the politics

Great story and great performance. I could have done without the political commentary. I’m not interested in the author’s opinion on President Trump. As a supporter of President Trump, I don’t need to be insulted or mocked in a book I paid the author good money for, he should stick to writing fiction and keep his political opinions to himself, I’m not interested in them.

Weeks before NYPD Detective Michael Bennett is to marry his longtime love, Mary Catherine, an assassin announces his presence in the city with a string of grisly murders. Each victim is a young woman. And each has been killed in a manner as precise as it was gruesome. Tasked with working alongside the FBI, Bennett and his gung-ho new partner uncover multiple cold-case homicides across the country that fit the same distinctive pattern—proving the perpetrator they seek is as experienced at ending lives as he is at evading detection.

A run of the mill detective story. I wouldn’t pay full price, something that you should only get if it’s on sale and you need to kill some time. Much better crime novels out there.

Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before. A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the US Senate, where Lucas had predicted she'd fit right in. He was also convinced that she'd been responsible for three murders, though he'd never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again. He was right.
