About this listen

Lucas Davenport confronts an old nemesis, now more powerful than ever as a US senator, in the thrilling new novel in the number one New York Times best-selling Prey series.

Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before.

A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the US Senate, where Lucas had predicted she'd fit right in. He was also convinced that she'd been responsible for three murders, though he'd never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again.

He was right. A federal marshal now, with a very wide scope of investigation, he's heard rumors that Grant has found her seat on the Senate intelligence committee, and the contacts she's made from it, to be very...useful. Pinning those rumors down was likely to be just as difficult as before, and considerably more dangerous.

But they had unfinished business, he and Grant. One way or the other, he was going to see it through to the end.

Critic reviews

“[Lucas Davenport] is a hero for these perilous times…” (The New York Times Book Review)

“Thoroughly entertaining...a deadly cat-and-mouse game that will keep the reader turning the pages up to the exciting climax." (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“One of the best in an always-strong series. Given the current geopolitical reality, it’s timely, too, and the conclusion is a rockin’ ‘didn’t see that coming’ beauty.” (Booklist)

Not as good

I didn't enjoy this prey novel as much as most. I think it's because I did me find the bad guys interesting. I don't care for books about politics or the military. I'm sure others will like this book more than I did. How can anyone not love this narrator? He's always great.

Always sad when a Prey book ends.

Another terrific read with the perfect narrator. I can't imagine Lucas Davenport without Richard Ferrone.

Thrilling

Another excellent book by the master John Sanford. Lucas Davenport may be my protagonist... antagonist.

Another Winner From Sandford

John Sandford is one of the best thriller writers out there, with compelling characters worth caring about and well plotted stories that keep the reader or listener fully engaged. If you've come to know his Lucas Davenport over the years it is always enjoyable looking in on his career and his family as he pursues another interesting case. Each Sandford book sells the next one in the series.

In Twisted Prey, Lucas becomes involved in an assassination attempt on a US Senator from Minnesota by professional killers with ties to military contractors and the other Minnesota Senator. The case unfolds in the usual Sandford style, with the pace picking up throughout the book, causing a disruption of your bedtime or other planned leisure activities. The details of the investigation and the motivations and conduct of the federal law enforcement agencies are well researched and fascinating to follow.

Richard Farrone is back as narrator and brings just the right touch of seriousness and humor to the book. He is the perfect reader for this series.

Fast moving

He is an excellent storyteller, weaves things together, bringing other characters from previous books in to add to the mystery, with surprise ending

Go for this one

I like all of Sandford's books, but this one is at the top of my list. The flow of the story is just what I like when trying to get into the characters. Don't miss this one.

Lucas rocks!

Lucas Davenport goes up against his old nemesis Taren Grant and it is terrific. I love his Marshall sidekicks. The great thing about Lucas is that he isn't conflicted, and it is so refreshing. And if/when his family gets threatened, it is in the service of the story and not some ploy to pull in the reader. Also refreshing!

Story

Good story but maybe not quite as good as other Prey books. I still recommend it.
