Lots of productivity books seem to sacrifice the important aspects of personal life. This was a breath of fresh air that seemed to do the opposite. There are quite a few things I have taken away from this book that I am confident will improve my quality of life in total.

With more than five million copies in print, in nearly two dozen languages, The Love Dare has become an exciting, enriching journey for couples around the world. It can now become yours. Though unconditional love is promised at weddings, it is rarely practiced in real life. As a result, romantic hopes often fade into disappointment at home. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. Whether your marriage is hanging by a thread or healthy and strong, this 40-day journey (featured in the hit movie Fireproof) challenges husbands and wives to understand and practice unconditional love.

A journey worth embarking on

Enjoyed all of it. Listened daily for 50 days straight. It’s not that I learned anything new. I’ve read this type of content before. But they word things in a way that gives fresh perspective on it all; enough for a real, practical, and lasting change to take place in my approach to my marriage and relationship with Christ. Priceless insight is found in this book. Pick it up if you “dare.”

During a train trip from Chicago to Texas in the late 1940s, A.W. Tozer began to write The Pursuit of God. He wrote all night, and when the train arrived at his destination, the rough draft was done. The depth of this book has made it an enduring favorite.

This was a gem, filled with legit truth. He does not shy away from breaking down what it really means to go after God, who’s already pursuing us. This is a great gap filler for the already theological mind, and an even better place to begin for anyone.

Decent Book; Couldn’t Relate to All The Points
Reviewed: 01-07-23
This was a good book that I learned a few things from, though at times it was admittedly a challenge to follow. I found that I left this book more infused with deep belief in myself, and more eager to be honest with myself than when I first came to it, I’d recommend Relentless, especially for anyone with a habit of getting in their own way.

Story
Have the day-to-day realities of being a dad and husband left you frustrated or worn out? You're not alone. Jerrad Lopes felt that way too...until he started blogging about his struggles and discovered thousands of other men who want to be good husbands and fathers but don't know where to start. You will learn that spiritual leaders realize their story isn't the story - it's all about Jesus; point their wives, children, community, and world toward God; stumble their way through spiritual leadership rather than doing nothing; and seek humility rather than strive for perfection.

Hope for a Burnt Out Dad and Husband
Reviewed: 12-16-22
This book is like a 8 piece nugget meal. Each chapter has encouraging and challenging points that are easy to digest and in a memorable story form. I found myself in silence at the end, contemplating lots of things about my life as a dad, husband, and disciple of Christ. I couldn’t help but feel less tired of it and little more hopeful about it all.

I unknowingly applied some of the principles of this book to actually read (listen to) it in a way that would help me get more out of it. Committing to one chapter per day (10 to 15 minutes), and here I am at the end of just a few weeks actually feeling like that was time well spent. I’ve gained some practical insight that’s given me hope for real progress in other aspects and arenas of my life. I highly recommend checking out, and applying, Atomic Habits.

Story
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Practical and insightful, but sometimes draws conclusions too quickly
Reviewed: 07-17-22
I like how insightful this book is in regards to the productivity “addiction”, if you will. It really gets to the core of what drives most inhabitants of Get-things-done-opolis.
Things get political toward the end, which doesn’t discount the prior weightier content that much, but wasn’t my cup of tea. There were also a few occasions where stats he hung his hat on might not hold up well to articulated opposing viewpoints.
Nonetheless… I enjoyed the journey this book took me on and would recommend it to “recovering” productivity nerds.

I would recommend the majority of the chapters not only to software developers, but to individuals in all professions, especially those with an office job.
