Story
In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible. Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. Rumor has it that she wears a blindfold at all times, and that she can solve impossible cases without even stepping outside the walls of her home.

Did I just read a 7th grade creative writing assignment?
Reviewed: 05-03-24
Comparing this book to Holmes & Watson is sacrilege. The entire book is spent figuring out one, very predictable plot line with zero character development. I honestly don't know how this book has such a high rating because I've read a lot of detective series', mysteries and thrillers and this has to be one of the most boring books I've ever read. I kept expecting something interesting to happen but then it just ended exactly as you'd expect. Creating a weird fantasy world with an enormous amount of made-up jargon makes it unnecessarily confusing; not interesting. The narrator did a much better job than the author.

Meh it's repetitive

I'll assume the story was trying to focus on the worth of a living creature because it doesn't have any other plot or compelling story. The characters have the same conversations over and over and over. This book could have been half the length and said the same things. the story wasn't as interesting or sci-fi as I had hoped. Narrator's talents for accents was impressive however.

Meh. This felt pointless.

I really enjoyed parts 1 & 2 but this 3rd section fell flat. The stories didn't seem to have a point or moving purpose. Plus the loud, over dramatic sound effects like talking while chewing were awful. Blah end to a great series.

Story
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

Meh. I read a lot of mystery and thrillers so this wasn't as gripping as I'd hoped. Nice and easy read though as an entry to the genres.

Story
At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

Story
For half a century, we have been trained to believe that our right brain hemisphere is our emotional brain, while our left brain houses our rational thinking. Now neuroscience shows that it's not that simple: In fact, our emotional limbic tissue is evenly divided between our two hemispheres. Consequently, each hemisphere has both an emotional brain and a thinking brain. In this groundbreaking new book, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor presents these four distinct modules of cells as four characters that make up who we are.

NOTHING has helped me understand my psychology and behavior better than this book. Thank you thank you THANK YOU Dr. Taylor for sharing with us your experience, knowledge and kindness. It will save the quality of my life and marriage more than you'll ever know. All of my characters (especially 2) hold the deepest respect, admiration and gratitude for you. Story
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

Story
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity and impartiality are the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the orderly and efficient flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe? It’s rare, but it happens. Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. She is a lawyer, not a cop, and it is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct.

This was my first time reading a Grisham novel and I am not impressed. Maybe his storytelling was intriguing in the 90s but this book was so boring I almost didn't finish it. Plus the narrators monotone "sexy" whisper was terrible for the main character. She's a lawyer, not a sex line operator. The entire mystery of criminality is told within the first two chapters. This whole story could have been a 1 hour Netflix special. I'll stick to Harry Bosch.
