About this listen

The next audiobook of psychological suspense and obsession from the authors of the blockbuster best-seller The Wife Between Us.

Seeking women ages 18-32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed.

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave.

Question number one: Could you tell a lie without feeling guilt?

But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking...and what she’s hiding.

Question number two: Have you ever deeply hurt someone you care about?

As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

Question number three: Should a punishment always fit the crime?

From the authors of the blockbuster best-seller The Wife Between Us comes an electrifying new audiobook about doubt, passion, and just how much you can trust someone.

Almost excellent

Although I am very familiar with books that jump around from past to present, or with different narrators, or perspectives , this book was very difficult to follow at times when it wasn't 'Jess' speaking . But, aside from that, the book was definitely a page turner that held my interest and flew by, and the concept was also original. So, in spite of some confusion (which may not have been there if I was reading instead of listening) I can recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a psychological thriller

Swing and a Miss on the Narration

I would have enjoyed the book more, but the Dr Shields passages absolutely ruined it for me. In fact, I found itdifficult to listen because the character and narration was so intolerable. Her narrative is terribly robotic. I imagine the intent was to highlight the character's meticulous and precise nature; however, it comes across as forced and unnatural. The over articulation and monotone voice are over the top and made the listening experience unenjoyable. And for some reason, the authors use the word "body" no less than 50 times (pronounced by Dr Shields' narrator as bod-DEE...ugh...trust me, once you hear it, you can't unhear it). Jessica, the protagonist, continuously makes poor choice after poor choice for no apparent reason. As other reviewers have mentioned, the majority of your time is spent asking yourself, "Why on earth wouldnt she just walk away??" The powerful draw she supposedly has to the doctor is unbelievable, perhaps because Dr Shields is such a difficult character to connect with that it's difficult to imagine anyone would go to the lengths Jessica does to impress her. Recommendation: I would pass on this one.

Great for A Road Trip

An Anonymous Girl is superbly written. It is a fun thriller that keeps the reader engaged and rooting for the protagonist. This book made several long car trips fly by. Not hard to follow so perfect for a road trip.

Great Story

The book itself was awesome and the last few hours I was seriously on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the story would turn out. My only negative was I hated the narration. For both characters it was stiff and monotone and didn't get the point across like they were trying to.

The book was “alright”

Book was fine. It entertained me but wasn’t anything that great.

Story was easy to follow.

It was a bit long and somewhat predictable

Great Start, Weak Finish

The story was well-written and the characters well-defined. But the ending betrayed them all. Any character as narcissistic, methodical and controlled as Dr Shields would never have had such a weak conclusion. Thomas, who is portrayed as handsome, intelligent and quite adept with ladies, ends up a cowardly, sniveling slip of a man, afraid of his own wife. These 180 degree turns belittle the victory of our heroine in the end. An otherwise engaging story with a terribly unrealistic, and worse, an UNexciting ending.
