Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

The behemoth is wild. Can’t imagine writing a book with this many characters, but King nails it. He’s a master. Performance is superb also and helps keep the characters in order with different voices. Man. Heroic dose of a book.

Very useful book! I kind of wish the back material was sprinkled throughout, but such good teachings. I learned so much! She is the boss! So many helpful ideas. Would have been great to read this in my 20s instead of my 40s.

Story
In the tourist town of Wharton, on the coast of Lake Superior, Tess Bell is renovating her old family home into a bed-and-breakfast during the icy dead of winter… As the house’s restoration commences, a shuttered art studio is revealed. Inside are paintings Tess’s late grandfather, beloved and celebrated artist Sebastian Bell, hid away for generations. But these appear to be the works of a twisted mind, almost unrecognizable as paintings she and others familiar with his art would expect.

Good but the guy…
Reviewed: 01-17-23
It kept my attention, the narrator is good, but the male character fell flat for me. He was TOO perfect. No guy is that perfect that suddenly falls for a middle aged single mom. I guess it’s fun to dream, but I prefer more multi-dimensional characters.
Enjoyed the art vibes though. Not as scary as the cover would imply.

These three authors changed the way millions of readers thought, dreamed, and experienced reality - but how did their writings reflect, as well as shape, the seismic cultural shifts taking place in America?

Story
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

How to Write an Autobiographical Novel is the author's manifesto on the entangling of life, literature, and politics, and how the lessons learned from a life spent reading and writing fiction have changed him. In these essays, he grows from student to teacher, reader to writer, and reckons with his identities as a son, a gay man, a Korean American, an artist, an activist, a lover, and a friend. He examines some of the most formative experiences of his life and the nation's history.

I don’t usually like super gay books, but Audible recommended this one and it was incredible. Also the guy who reads it sounds like the bad guy in the movie There Will Be Blood and I LOVED that. Made it feel juicy and taboo. Really gave me a new appreciation for gay men. Fantastic writer.

Story
Boyd Varty had an unconventional upbringing. He grew up on Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa, a place where man and nature strive for balance, where perils exist alongside wonders. Founded more than 80 years ago as a hunting ground, Londolozi was transformed into a nature reserve beginning in 1973 by Varty’s father and uncle, visionaries of the restoration movement. But it wasn’t just a sanctuary for the animals; it was also a place for ravaged land to flourish again and for the human spirit to be restored.

This was such a great. I truly loved this book. I heard about Boyd Varty on the Aubrey Marcus podcast and got hooked. I liked this book even better than his most recent one which was also good. Really this might be my favorite memoir ever written by a man. I’ll be recommending this book for a long time. What an amazing life. So grateful he shared his tale. It was relatable for me on so many levels.
