There is no real way to boil this down to a short review.
For me, the power struggles, interpersonal relationships, character growth; and circumstances were brilliantly written. This is a book for everybody, if you were into science fiction you might enjoy it more; but like I said. For everybody!

Story
Tamsyn Muir’s Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap out of the audio, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy. Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse.

Love the story and the twists the plot is taking. It is at this point that I feel the narrator has done a five star job! It is slowly gotten better as the series progressed, but for me; this was the turning point!

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. Sometimes it's just best to get the hell out of Dodge. After turning an ancient vampire to dust and stirring the Coven into a mob of pitchfork-and-torch-bearing vampires, Chris Gordon thinks it might be time for a road trip. So, leaving Tanya to calm the troubled masses, he heads south to help a North Carolina pack with some demon troubles.

Still loving these books! In my opinion, here is where the crazy goes wild! Please read the books in order. If you’re reading random reviews to see if the series is good all the way through before giving it a shot, it is!
If you are worried about the direction the series is taking, don’t worry about it.

Story
Chris and Tanya have been assigned as Coven Rovers, travelling the country and troubleshooting the supernatural community. It's a job that's part cop and part auditor, one that should be long periods of boredom mixed with small parts of action. But this is Chris and Tanya, so a sudden assignment to check on a rogue vampire leads to a run-in with a hostile master vampire, a hit squad, monsters straight out of Native American folklore, black ops teams, and, worst of all, vampire politics.

I am thoroughly enjoying my second trip through the series this time in audio format! If you’ve made it this far, then you obviously don’t need encouragement to continue! However, if you are doubting the series; I suggest you push through! It definitely gets a whole lot more interesting.

Story
Tess McBray was dying. The solstice syndrome had no cure, and she resigned herself to an early grave. But just when she gave up on survival, all her symptoms mysteriously disappeared. All but one symptom, anyway. Something is wrong with Tess’ hands. They absorb any material they touch, and her skin turns to wood, steel, or concrete. It doesn’t take this comic book obsessed 21-year-old long to figure out what’s going on: somehow, she’s developed super powers. And she’s not the only one; across the country, people are coming forward and sharing their gifts with the world.

Not what I was expecting.
Reviewed: 07-29-19
I believe the story was well written, though I did feel like a few things were not adequately explained. I assume we will learn about those later as the series progresses. The book took a couple of turns I was not expecting, diving into topics that I don’t often see written about in this genre. I feel like it did a good job of describing those, and all of the characters actions seemed logical.
Narration was done well, and though at times volume would peak it was not too distracting. It only happened three or four times during the novel, Maybe something to do with compression.
I received this audiobook at my request, and am voluntarily leaving this review. That being said, I’m not certain if I will continue the series. however I do feel like this was a worthwhile read! If the foreshadowing is doing what I think it is, the series may turn into something I would deeply enjoy!

If you have not read the series, you definitely need to give it a try! It is often a standard against which all other books in the genre are measured.

This was a fun listen! I found myself recalling a lot of details that I had forgotten. The only downfall in my opinion was the narrator had a disturbing penchant for turning statements into questions. However, I have listen to a sample from later on in the series and I know it gets better! Loved it, already picked up Book too!
