While the IKEA atmosphere is super fun and interesting, the story is lame; I never cared about the characters; and the conversations are cringe!

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Too sad to enjoy

These characters aren’t real people but symbols of what can happen to someone when life destroys them. You don’t really care about these people because not enough is shared about them. You only know how terrible one character was treated…chapter after chapter he meets monsters and then everyone tries to help…then he meets another monster. So brutal. I finished it and then left it in a hotel room for someone else to find. It’s my version of the Ring…7 days…

Felt like a series of essays
Reviewed: 09-14-22
This felt less like a full story and more a series of essays in the form of conversations. Writing was wonderful and I’ll read more from this author but this story didn’t feel fully cooked yet.
Thanks

Awesome cover and I love the idea of a book having a Twin Peaks energy… but this good was so confusing and disappointing. The beginning starts off interesting enough. I wanted to know what was going to happen. The fall into I don’t care at all is quick. Be prepared. Epic ugh for this one.

Story
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

It was just ok. When dealing with such serious issues, writing it in an approachable way is great but this borders on cutesy and that just leaves you as the reader feeling disappointed

Story
Amanda and Clay head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation: a quiet reprieve from life in New York City, quality time with their teenage son and daughter, and a taste of the good life in the luxurious home they’ve rented for the week. But a late-night knock on the door breaks the spell. Ruth and G. H. are an older couple—it’s their house, and they’ve arrived in a panic. They bring the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city. But in this rural area—with the TV and internet now down, and no cell phone service—it’s hard to know what to believe.
