As he did in Who Not How, Dr. Benjamin Hardy shares one of Dan Sullivan's simple yet profound teachings that until now has been known only to his Strategic Coach clients: unsuccessful people focus on "The Gap", but successful people focus on "The Gain".

I was hooked from the start.
Reviewed: 10-10-23
It is rare to be so hooked by a book right from the start of the introduction, but this book definitely achieved that. usually there's some time to build momentum but in this book it just jumps right in and goes for the jugular right up front. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Story
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

An incredibly important read!

I've always found Malcolm Gladwell to be so inquisitive and with a high standard for investigation in order to learn something fascinating about humanity. This book still delivers on that and I would say it's especially important for Americans.

Story
In this national best-seller, Robert Bly explores the idea of the missing father in contemporary society. He draws upon a cornucopia of legend and literature - as varied as the poetry of William Blake, Jungian psychology, and Sioux initiation rituals - to encourage men in their pursuit of the “inner warrior.”

Timeless

This book is now a classic that is foundational to various segments of the greater men's movement, but definitely the book for what became known as the mythopoetic men's movement. An excellent resource for a deeper understanding of the soul of men. Reads almost like Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With A Thousand Faces" with many references to classic literature as well as more modern psychology, sociology, and anthropology. All of it expressed in a more streamlined and simple manner, thereby making it easy to understand as a much more practical book and not something highly academic.

Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has been a top seller for the simple reason that it ignores trends and pop psychology for proven principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity. Celebrating its 15th year of helping people solve personal and professional problems, this special anniversary edition includes a new foreword and afterword written by Covey that explore whether the 7 Habits are still relevant and answer some of the most common questions he has received over the past 15 years.

I can see how this now classic book inspired the ideas of various others in the personal development and organizational leadership fields. It holds up extremely well as of course sound principles always do.

It's chock-full of wonderful insights that are very real world oriented and clothed very nicely in a story. Overall the book in and of itself with how it was told is a great idea and I can see why it has expired so many others.

Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their successes over and over? People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why.

Now I see for myself what's so many have been talk

This really is a phenomenal work from a brilliant thought leader. His TED Talk from 2009 that first really established him is a great lead in to this book, but this book certainly stands on its own. He has formulated his viewpoint very well, even grounding it in the biology of the brain, and his articulation is intellectually stimulating, but still simple while being incredibly practical with many great examples from both social leadership and business leadership to back up his claims.
The printed book has been great to read as well and this is the first time that I've gone through both an audiobook and a printed work. I've been able to take a lot of great notes in the printed book and the audiobook just helps to reinforce the printed version for me.
But this audio version even helped me to get over a business planning hump by reminding me to focus on WHY first. After doing that I was able to become more solution-oriented and excited about the tasks at hand.
I think there is some groundbreaking material here that is important and can be of service to anyone no matter what they're up to in life.
