A secret buried in the Antarctic. A puzzle unsolved for thousands of years. And a Brooklyn-born master gunnery sergeant who's royally pissed that he has to babysit the researchers sent to figure it all out. But when Patrick "Wic" Finnegan finally sees what the team has uncovered, he can't believe his eyes, nor is he prepared for the violence to come. Soon, the portal opens and unleashes a storm of unbridled fury upon humanity.

More enjoyable and less cringy than his ruins of the galaxy series (which was just a rip of of galaxy edge which is a Star Wars rip off lol). Definitely borrows heavily from expeditionary force but the story line is different enough it’s still enjoyable. RC bray is amazing as alway.
Hopper, Chaney, if you read this for the love of god please stop with the 3 letter acronyms they have to shout constantly, ktf was cool, otf and the galaxy ruin one makes it sound written by a high school kid.

The Galactic Empire is dying. In their high towers, the Grand Senators plot and struggle to grasp a larger share of power while on the streets, the poor struggle to survive just one more day. Chaos and anarchy are running through the megacities of Earth, while giant corporations tighten the screws and colony worlds plot to declare independence and escape the Empire's increasing demands for resources. Centuries of mismanagement are finally catching up with the human race.

If you managed to read the first two books and could get past the uncomfortably frequent talk about rape to the point where someone should probably do a background check on the author and the constant far right wing propaganda because the base story was interesting I recommend stopping here. The series goes off the deep end turning into a political rant with a vendetta against education and pretty much anything that’s not the marines.
I really tried to like it but holy hell was this awful.

Story
The Galactic Empire is dying and chaos and anarchy are breaking out everywhere. After a disastrous mission against terrorists on Earth itself, Captain Edward Stalker of the Terran Marine Corps makes the mistake of speaking truth to power, telling one of the most powerful men in the Empire a few home truths. As a result, Captain Stalker and his men are unceremoniously exiled to Avalon, a world right on the Rim of the Empire. It should have been an easy posting...

Painful
Reviewed: 10-27-21
I love military sci-fi and it makes up the majority of my library that being said this is just too painful to continue with. I keep trying to imagine it as a dystopia but I have a sneaking suspicion the author thinks we are actually heading for this absurd future.
The idea that the marines are the only honest people who are taught to see through the lies of society after two years in bootcamp but education is corrupting people is so off the wall I couldn’t get past it.
Long story short skip this far right political sob story and go read some Craig Alanson.

I thoroughly enjoy the story, each one feels like the author put the time into new ideas not just recycling the same plot over and over like is typical with this long of a series.
Please, god, please get a new narrator and send this one back to creating sound bytes for Siri.

You probably found this book after making your way through the galaxies edge books like I did. The core GE books are excellent but like this book many of the offshoot books are pretty bad. These books are thick with the authors very strong political views and lack any imagination or creativity. Like in the GE universe they have not really created anything new, in this case they just threw lord of the rings into a military sci-fi instead of blatantly ripping off Star Wars.
Long story short, save yourself the credit and move on.

Overly political
Reviewed: 04-25-21
I’ve been very much enjoying the Galaxy edge series but may break off the series after these books. I don’t mind some political undertones in my books but I don’t need it shoved down my throat. Last book in this series is pretty much just a conservative fantasy of how current US politics are controlled by Soros and vividly talks about hanging his version of AOC. Kind of books school shooters and disillusioned old white men love.
