About this listen

A secret buried in the Antarctic. A puzzle unsolved for thousands of years.

And a Brooklyn-born master gunnery sergeant who's royally pissed that he has to babysit the researchers sent to figure it all out. Patrick "Wic" Finnegan's last op as a Marine Raider before retirement sends him to the frozen Ellsworth Subglacial Highlands. The only reason he's here? He owes a favor to an old friend, but that doesn't mean he has to like it.

When Wic finally sees what the team has uncovered, he can't believe his eyes, nor is he prepared for the violence to come. Soon, the portal opens and unleashes a storm of unbridled fury upon humanity.

From the Antarctic tundra to the streets of Manhattan, Wic and his team will be pushed to their limits as they fight to hold back Earth's ultimate threat. The odds are against them. Governments are toppling. And the Earth is falling into ruin.

Join best-selling authors Christopher Hopper and J.N. Chaney on what audiences call a "nonstop, break-neck thrill ride into metaspace". For fans of District 9, Expeditionary Force, and Galaxy's Edge, this is one military sci-fi thriller you won't be able to put down, and the official beginning to the hit series Ruins of the Galaxy.

Great start to Series

I especially liked performance by RC Bray. If you liked “Skippy” you will like Sir Charles.

Entertaining and Hilarious

The beginning started off as a typical “save the world syfy”— which I love… but it took a hilarious twist while remaining in the genre. This book had me laughing out loud multiple times! I love RC Bray and his ability to give every character a different personality. I was thoroughly entertained with this book and wish there was a part two!

Awesome! RC kills it as usual.

Great book. Great story... even though its a bit familiar. Love pretty much anything RC does.

Hilarious, and yet still great military Sci-Fi

Lots of people in reviews keep saying it is a knockoff of Expeditionary Force, however I disagree.

This story stands on its own.

Yes there are similarities, but if you give the book 2 chapters you will be hooked.

RC Bray is excellent, the story pacing is excellent , the squad characters are each unique, fresh and detailed.

Genuine laugh out loud moments, while also providing a sense of the true horror faced by warfighters in battle.

For those fans of Expeditionary Force, absolutely get this book. For the early fans of EF that thought EF had played the story out, you really need to give this a book a listen.

Great Yarn

These two are always great and RC Bray! What else can one say? Really, give this one a try, if only for Lord Charles the talking alien field.

Great Knockoff

this was a great read! It was compelling, a good story, well-written, quasi believable and also extremely like the expeditionary Force. Can't wait for the next one to be written!

Really enjoyed this experience!!

As other reviewers advise it was similar to EF, however, moved past that quickly and enjoyed the interactions and banter between the characters. RC Bray was amazing as always and the plot had some interesting twists and turns. Have pre-ordered the next book and can't wait to see what happens. Liked the reference to Stargate. Bonus interview at the end was fun too,

Great story!

I do not know where this magic comes from, but this book has depth. The next book cannot be done fast enough for me. Thanks for getting RC Bray to bring it to life.

Great listen

Great story, while some of the attention to detail (exact model and build of guns and equipment for example) felt like it slowed things down for a bit, characters are likeable and the story kept me interested all the way through.
