About this listen

A secret buried in the Antarctic. A puzzle unsolved for thousands of years.

And a Brooklyn-born master gunnery sergeant who's royally pissed that he has to babysit the researchers sent to figure it all out. Patrick "Wic" Finnegan's last op as a Marine Raider before retirement sends him to the frozen Ellsworth Subglacial Highlands. The only reason he's here? He owes a favor to an old friend, but that doesn't mean he has to like it.

When Wic finally sees what the team has uncovered, he can't believe his eyes, nor is he prepared for the violence to come. Soon, the portal opens and unleashes a storm of unbridled fury upon humanity.

From the Antarctic tundra to the streets of Manhattan, Wic and his team will be pushed to their limits as they fight to hold back Earth's ultimate threat. The odds are against them. Governments are toppling. And the Earth is falling into ruin.

Join best-selling authors Christopher Hopper and J.N. Chaney on what audiences call a "nonstop, break-neck thrill ride into metaspace". For fans of District 9, Expeditionary Force, and Galaxy's Edge, this is one military sci-fi thriller you won't be able to put down, and the official beginning to the hit series Ruins of the Galaxy.

Fun ride

RC bray is the best narrator! The story is well done, exciting and fun. Give it a try you won’t be sorry.

Very good kickoff to a new series-Worthy Effort

I liked the entire book. RC has a new Skippy character to play named Charlie. Skippy in case you do not know is the A.I. in Expeditionary Force series living out of a beer can. Skippy is by far the better of the two characters. This series can go on for many additional books and I hope it does. After the book ends ( like in Expeditionary Force) RC comes on and has more to say. I was not impressed by this segment due mostly to the language used -- Maybe next time it will be a improved effort. way RC does the EF bloopers is amazing. R C Bray is the best at what he does.

I had to go four stars

The first few hours I was beginning to think of this as the best story to come out in a long time. Then came Skippy. You all know who I am talking about especially Mr Bray who’s work I have long admired. I know that deuce ex characters are the rage now but they should be original and not a cheap knock off. This disappointed me and ruined the story IMO. I don’t know if I’ll do book 2 or not.

Stargate meets Expeditionary Force

I absolutely love this book! within just a couple of chapters I was fully vested in the story and the characters as they entered into it. The new AI, Sir Charles is awesome, and before you start saying that he is a skippy ripoff, keep in mind that there are hundreds of AIs out there and they all have similarities. not too mention when you have RC Bray doing the voice you're not going to be able to avoid that. Sir Charles is certainly unique enough that I didn't take any exception to the way he is in the book. I love that this book made me laugh, cringe, and yell hell yeah!
I love the mix of sci-fi and military and Cheney and Hopper both did an excellent job of making it as accurate as possible. The plushies are an easy villain to hate and I can't wait to see what happens in book 2. finally, Lord Bray killed it once again... we are not worthy 😉

badass.

R.C is the best damned narrator out there. The authors are okay too. If you dig the Craig Alanson books you're gonna dig this one also. Thanks guys. Now get to work on more books.

Heart stopping action

I found this story to be new and refreshing with quite the twist. Lost of action and suspense as the characters explore a new device that they hope will give them new insight, only to find that it was a mistake to try. The narrator does and excellent job bringing the characters and book to life. I found I was hanging on every word wondering if the characters would survive the next battle. Highly recommend. Can't wait to listen to the next book.

Very interesting

Great listen. However and to avoid spoilers, a character, a little reminiscent of Skippy from another series which I will not reveal. With RC Bray as the narrater, very reminiscent! Did the authors have permission? Just saying!
Great first in a series of hopefully more to come.
