About this listen

Mark Watson is generally accepted to be alive. And yet he’s died. In fact, he’s died loads of times.

On stage.

It’s embarrassing. Excruciating. But dying on stage isn’t the only death Mark’s suffered. There’s also been the death of his innocence. The death of that absolutely brilliant project that everyone told him was really amazing. And that time he died inside.

In this warm-hearted, hilarious memoir he takes you behind the scenes of a life - and many deaths - in comedy and beyond. From his early years on the circuit, to getting lost in the world of TV, Mark reveals everything: when he died and when he lived. 8 Deaths will show you that it’s not how you die that counts - it’s how you live.

Intended to space this listen out but found it so engaging I finished it in less than a day. If you’re a fan of Watson’s, this is a lovely example of his relatability and talent for storytelling, with much humor and heart. Lots of smiles, a bit of secondhand embarrassment, honesty and genuine lessons await you.

Like a friend in your ear.

I enjoyed it, the only thing is that the narration is so fast that it was easy to miss some of the details. I had to keep going back to capture some of the context.
In the midst of being entertaining, he offers thoughts that I could identify as genuine and tried to the human condition even if you're not a stand-up comedian.

Interesting, funny, remarkably insightful.

I've always loved Mark Watson's stand up and other tv projects (he's great on Taskmaster & No More Jockeys) but haven't read or listened to any of his literary projects. This one is fantastic, very relatable storytelling for anyone who has been part of the human experience.

Great listen

Bravely honest stories of the writer’s own experiences, narrated with the skill and humour of Mark Watson’s unassuming trademark style.

Thought provoking and seriously witty

I only made it through Death #1. For me, the problem is his delivery. It's kind of like he's on stage and screaming at the audience. If he brought it down a notch or two, gave a pregnant pause to some of his jokes, I may have been able to finish this.
