About this listen

Life - if you've ever thought you might be doing it wrong, you're not alone. Objects in the Mirror: Thoughts on a Perfect Life from an Imperfect Person is a collection of essays that explores what it means to be alive.

Like Polaroids framing the years of a troubadour and family man afflicted with an excess of self-awareness, these are stories without any clear good guys or bad guys. Instead, in each of these vignettes you will find dysfunctional humans trying to do their best and bouncing off each other in the process.

Bought the book when it was released and my husband read it quickly and loved it. I waited for the audio so I could hear the tales told by the subject who experienced them.

I wasn't disappointed. Using lyrics from his songs to denote the beginning of each topic was clever and made me want to dive into the Kellogg catalogue again and again.

Objects was though provoking and the author was remarkably candid at a time when we all walk so carefully in conversations. Honest but not to be hurtful but rather to be helpful.

Cheers Mr. Kellogg, well done. JC Dwyer

I have been a fan of Stephen Kellogg since I first saw him at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA while I was a student at UMASS over 20 years ago. Like his music, his book is stories from his experiences and life. Personal, vulnerable, and a few laughs along the way. While I have an actual copy of this book, I could not resist listening to his voice on the audible version. It feels like your sitting with him having a conversation. For the fans of his music, this book is a must. For those who are unfamiliar, read his book and checkout his music. You won’t regret it.

This has been a precious book to listen to. Not only the content but having it read by the author really hits home. Sure, he talks about his life, his philosophies and his experiences, but in each chapter I found many parallels to my own life and motivation to improve it. I would recommend this to anyone, and would also recommend the song album to accompany it. - A new fan...

Best ever

After seeing Stephen at a show, opening for Matt Nathanson, he mentioned that he had a book for sale at the merch table. We bought it, but I couldn't wait to read it, so I also got the Audible version. He's a fantastic narrator in general, but this mix of memoir and musings was fantastic. Words of advice coming from such an honest and sincere place, from a seemingly really good person, is the kind of stuff that you just hang on. He may dub himself artistically as the 'adult Raffi,' but listening to his thoughts was like, "Whatever you say, Mr. Rogers, I'm on board!" I hope he continues to write and narrate.

An absolutely delightful listen
