About this listen

When successful mystery novelist and fledgling private detective Marius Quin is invited to speak at the Mystery and Detection Society he jumps at the chance of a luxurious weekend away on the English coast. But arriving at Torquay’s Grand Hotel with his sleuthing partner Lady Bella Montague, there is the definite sense that all is not well.

When they wake the next morning to discover the body of a cantankerous local in the hotel pool, the things go from bad to worse. But how can the duo catch a killer when every piece of evidence they uncover is contradicted by two more? Faced with a hostile police sergeant, evasive witnesses and a conspiracy to conceal the truth, Bella and Marius must call upon every last resource they possess to uncover the secret of the body at the Grand Hotel.

A charming, cozy mystery. If you adore Agatha Christie, T E Kinsey and Lee Strauss you’ll be hooked on this historical mystery.

Mrs. ? LOL!

Oh heavens !! Another great book from Benedict Brown! I only have one suggestion for the future, please never, never, never give another "cantankerous local" with a name like hers (I won't even try to spell it!) ! LOL. EVERY SINGLE time the narrator said it I tried to say it in my head !! Unfortunately I "said" it differently ever time 😃. It was exhausting. LOL!

Can’t wait for the next one!

Based on the reviews, I was anticipating a cliffhanger. And certainly got one! So very much looking forward to the next installment. I thoroughly enjoyed it and liked the bit of overlap between this and Lord Edgington. The whodunnit was not difficult to determine or a surprise like in the other books, however, the unraveling of the plot was engaging. I do like how Benedict Brown immerse you in period details. It’s like you are there along with the characters; able to see and experience everything. A shout out to the narrator who does an excellent job! He brings the book to life.

Great narration

Enjoyed this book as with the previous books in the same series. Good story, with a great narrator. The ending scene left a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait for the next book.

P/s is Inspector Lovebrooke getting his own series? The author seemed to be hinting that Inspector had a complicated background, and through this series been dropping info bits about him. I do hope to see one with Valentine Lovebrooke as main character.
