Publisher's summary

Enter the Nine Lands of the Mountain Fell.

Skye has only ever known pain and solitude since waking up with neither memories or magic. Hunted for being a Ruler in a time when they are scarce, she has survived in the wilds near the Rim, always on the run from the rest of her kind. Only starvation could draw her close to a village, but when a chance encounter and a bit of bad luck launch her into the arms of a man whose soul is bonded to hers, hiding who she is may no longer be possible.

Ilyas is a hunted man. Wanted for killing the last High Queen of Vine, he is plagued by his past of wholesale slaughter. He never wanted another Queen, and certainly not a half-feral, distrustful girl who gave up on the Fae a long time ago. Unfortunately, Soulbonds are not so easily walked away from, no matter how hard they both may want to, especially when trapped together in a cave with a pack of Feral Fae right outside.

With long-held enmities breaking out between the besieged villagers and all their lives on the line, Ilyas and Skye must learn to work together and trust each other if they want to survive.

A story of bravery, honor, and passion

This book. Wow. Okay I promise I’m not just going to say this but I had to say this first, this book was incredible. I laughed, I cried (LITERALLY!), and the end nearly broke me. In a good way, I promise.
A Bond of Thread follows Skye, a queen, who’s living on the outskirts of civilization where there are these crazy monsters called ferals which I could only envision as the flesh monster from The Witcher tv series. With nowhere else to go, she hides in a cave that has food, water, and shelter. There’s just one problem. The cave belongs to Ilyas, a silver-eyed warrior who wants to be alone yet struggles with the inner duty to protect and while he thought finding a mouse—aka Skye—stealing from him was the worst thing that could happen, a pack of ferals attacks the village near the cave and the two must work together to protect the innocents.
The banter between Skye and Ilyas was top-notch and if you’re looking for a book that has action and romance in a fantasy world then this is the book for you. I loved how their love story developed and I think their complex backgrounds revealed themselves at the perfect pace.
There are so many great characters in this book, but if I had to choose, I think my favorite character would be Mycellica. He made me laugh so hard and was the perfect character to sprinkle in humor during moments of sadness or distress. I love action, I also love romance, and I don’t mind some darkness in books, but I need some humor to keep the hope that things will be okay! This book had all of that and more. The ending was surprising but it definitely sets things up for a follow up novel. I wasn’t ready for this book to be over!! Good thing there’s another book out! Excuse me while I disappear to read more.

Yay for real characters in a fantasy world!

I'm thrilled to see authours putting disability reprensentation into fantasy reads. We need more books like this. One of the character has PTSD and the other is ADHD and dyslexic. It was refreshing to read such real characters in a fantasy world. I also found in fascinating how, despite the majority of the book taking place in a cave, the story didn't loose my intrest and had me eagerly anticipating the characters next move. I listened to this book on audio and even the narrator was fabulous. It was a beautifully built world, beautifully built characters, and I need more...

Exciting new world awaits!

This is a great introduction to a new world of fantasy and adventure. The way the authors describe the world they have created really brings you there, every sight and sound is so realistic. I can’t wait to see what happened next in this universe! The reader does a fantastic job slipping between subtle changes of voices to give each their own unique aspect.

A fabulous enemies-to-lovers romance

Full disclosure, I’m not really a romance reader. I certainly enjoy romance (I might even enjoy a bit of steam here and there), but if it’s the backbone of a story I tend to be bored fairly quickly unless there’s something else going on. This book DOES NOT disappoint. J.P. Burnison and Allegra Pescatore have created a really cool, whimsical world with a solid set of rules to play with and some great lore at its core and, for book set primarily in a cave, I reread the first two sections twice because I didn’t want to miss anything when that annoying thing called LIFE got in the way and I came back to this book after a hiatus and was deep in the middle of action.

The characters, in particular, are where this book shines. Skye and Ilyas are nuanced and fascinating and you can’t help but enjoy their journey. Skye, in particular, is a great character and I loved how she just didn’t really understand nuance or…people in general. I can relate, and it was really entertaining. However the best character is, by far, Mycellica (a skitterling, a type of small fairy creature known as a “Fair Folk”) and you will only understand why if you trust me and read this book.

I’m excited to see where the rest of this series goes, and I eagerly await volume two!

Beautiful world, Beautiful characters

Did I discover an epic fantasy in my Fae romance? Yes, and it made the book better than I could have possibly imagined. Fans of complex characters, detailed lore, and intriguing magic systems will adore this instant classic by Pescatore and Burnison.

Excellent start to a new series

This book was fun and fast paced, despite being the first book in a series and having to set up a new world and magic system. A feat that was extra impressive since for the majority of the novel, the characters are trapped in a cave.

This is a romance, which isn’t always my favorite genre, but there is so much STORY here that it wasn’t even a little bit of an issue for me. I can’t wait to read book 2!
