Publisher's summary

“Exquisitely written with compelling characters and romance . . . I was swept away by the enchanting and magical world Rebecca Ross crafted, and loved every moment of it.” — Sue Lynn Tan, bestselling author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess

Enter the isle of Cadence in this novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals—a Scottish-inspired fantasy brimming with enemies-to-lovers romance, magic and spirits, and a captivating mystery

It starts with a letter and an ominous journey across dark waters. Ten years after being sent away to the mainland to become a bard, Jack Tamerlaine is summoned home to Cadence. Girls are going missing from the island, and Adaira, his childhood nemesis and the future leader of the clan, believes Jack is the only one who can find them.

The elemental spirits that dwell in every breath of air, splash of water, blade of grass, and flicker of fire find mirth in the lives of the humans, and a bard’s music is the only way to summon them and ask that the girls be returned. Yet as Jack and Adaira get closer to solving the mystery, it becomes apparent that an older, darker secret about Cadence lurks beneath the surface, and no harp song may be strong enough to stop it.

With unforgettable characters, a thrilling plot, and a lush folklore-infused world, A River Enchanted is a stirring story of duty, love, and creating harmony between opposing forces. This first book in the Elements of Cadence duology marks Rebecca Ross’s brilliant entry on the adult fantasy stage.

STUNNING!!

I read a LOT of books that call themselves Fantasy novels, or folklore, or even Fairytales, but this book was a beautiful blend of storytelling, folklore, and fantasy with a wonderful blend of elemental magic, which can be a wild an at times very uneasy journey into the heart of the Fae of the Elements.
This was truly Beautiful storytelling!!
There’s so much out there that promises fantasy and all it really gives you is teenagers falling in love with some sort of supernatural backdrop, but NOT this book.
I cannot express how refreshing it is to find a book where the characters, though young ( in their 20’s) aren’t teenagers & it doesn’t feel like it’s written for teenagers.
The characters are stubborn and have their challenging qualities, but this is also a part of the plot, it’s woven beautifully and seamlessly into the story as we watch these characters grow and evolve, face themselves in in and different ways.
I am truly blown away.
I am immediately getting the next book in this series & I will continue to explore more of Rebecca Ross and her writing in the future. Oh and the narration was Superb 🙏🏽✨🥂🍾🎊

Enchanting story brings you to long-ago Scotland

Well-written and pleasantly-narrated novel explores a remote Scottish island in an era when clans reverenced nature spirits. Character motives become clear through rational inner dialogue and expressive conversations.

Enjoyable. Entertaining.

I would give this a 4.5 overall. I enjoyed the story and narration. It was captivating, and I didn’t see the end coming. Great fantasy and will be going on to the second book. I would only knock off 0.5 from the rating just because at times, the story felt a bit flat or lacking of a certain depth. Would still recommend it overall.

A well written fantasy

A good story with really magical imagery that kept me interested throughout the book for the most part. I loved the parallel between the heiress and jack’s relationship and the story of the fire and sea spirits; once hating each other but becoming friends and finding love. This story could definitely become a beautiful movie adaptation. The narrator fit the story so well, her cadence and voice all the way down to the accent really complimented the story. She did a good job capturing the emotion of so many characters. She also shares a name with my late mother which doesn’t change anything but was special to me.

Such an enchanting story

I loved this story and the narrator was amazing. The characters were so fleshed out, from main characters to side characters just all of them!I loved Jack,Adaira, and Frae and found Sidra and Torrins point of views really interesting. A lot of authors can sometimes write marriage couples in an almost stale way, Same with younger pov’s like Frae’s, it was nice to see that wasn’t the case. This is my first book that I’ve read by Rebecca Ross. I’ve never read a book with this type of background and I’m loving the world she’s crafted. And the ENDING 😩🥹. I can’t wait to read the second book in this series.

Mysterious & Mesmerizing

An expertly narrated story of a magical island divided by two warring factions told in five different points of view.

There’s mysteries, music, elemental spirits, two love stories, and a heartbreaking cliffhanger.

I’m looking forward to A Fire Endless publishing next week to see how it all ends!
