About this listen

Ghosts can’t seem to keep their opinions to themselves. Seventeen-year-old Nate Shaw should know; he’s been talking to them since he was 12.

But they aren’t the only ones making his high school years a living hell.

All Nate wants is to keep his secret and keep his head down until he can graduate. That is, until the new boy, James Powell, takes a seat next to him in homeroom. James not only notices him, he also manages to work his way into Nate’s life.

But James has issues of his own. Between dead grandmothers and living aunts, Nate has to navigate the fact he’s falling in love with his only friend, all while getting advice from the most unusual places.

Ghosts, bullies, first love: it’s a lot to deal with when you’re just trying to survive senior year.

It was perfect, but bumpy at the start

What do you do when you know you are wired and rejected by almost everyone, including your mother? You have to find a friend to help change your ways and worries and for you to help him overcome his problems. But how do you make a friend when you have none, unless he comes to you to become your friend, boyfriend, and mentor. Overcoming fear is best done while falling in love and with forgiveness for all.

Love Story with some Supernatural Elements

I enjoyed this story. I read other reviews bringing down the supernatural element but I think it kept the story from being boring. I loved how both characters friendship bloomed and loved the supernatural side. My only wish was that the story went more in depth about Nates family mythology but other then that great story.

110 PERCENT ADORABLE!!!

What a beautiful, and pleasurable reading experience. Despite the mild "supernatural" framework that contains the overall story... it never becomes bogged down by it. At its heart, it remains a wonderful coming of age / coming out story.. that perfectly captures the wonder, fire, and jitters of growing up, and first true love. Amazing! A must read for those new to the genre, and those who are longtime fans. Bravo!

The Narration too, is pitch perfect in it's delivery. Lawrence T. Lewis perfectly delivers all the cogs and flywheels that are in constant overdrive in the protagonists young mind, as he sets about discovering the the voids in his life, and just what his new best friend is doing to help fill them!

Perhaps the ghosts were not necessary?

I really enjoyed this book. I particularly liked the main character, who seemed real. I sympathized with him. I also liked the balance with the love interest. I don't think the use of the "ghosts" was necessary. It felt a little gimmicky, like trying to introduce a different sort of character. They could have been better developed just like any other character so it was easier to appreciate them and their role in propelling the story. The ghosts felt like props as a result. The love interest seemed to quick to believe. So, this book was a good effort, entertaining and different, which could have been better developed.

Enjoyed it but was confused at times by the ghost

I really enjoyed this audible book, but was confused at times with the ghost coming in and out of the story.
