About this listen

From debut novelist Jason June comes a moving and hilarious sex-positive teen rom-com about the complexities of first loves, first hookups, and first heartbreaks - and how to stay true to yourself while embracing what you never saw coming, that’s perfect for fans of Sandhya Menon and Becky Albertalli.

There’s one thing Jay Collier knows for sure - he’s a statistical anomaly as the only out gay kid in his small rural Washington town. While all his friends can’t stop talking about their heterosexual hookups and relationships, Jay can only dream of his own firsts, compiling a romance to-do list of all the things he hopes to one day experience - his Gay Agenda.

Then, against all odds, Jay’s family moves to Seattle, and he starts his senior year at a new high school with a thriving LGBTQIA+ community. For the first time ever, Jay feels like he’s found where he truly belongs. But as Jay begins crossing items off his list, he’ll soon be torn between his heart and his hormones, his old friends and his new ones...because after all, life and love don’t always go according to plan.

We got it the first 25 times, Why did he need to read his list so many times? The story seemed good, but I had to stop listening. I could not take another read of his list. I don't give up on books, but this one, I stop just after chapter 5.

Just could not take it.

Not the best story ever written but it’s not bad, it’s nice most of the time.

Nice story

It's a cute story. However (and spoiler alert), I don't like how the main character was forced to apologize to everyone and how they all made it out like he was the only one "in the wrong". I guess it worked out in the end.

It's a cute story

I love this book I think that it is great for anyone who needs something to listen to on a plane because it’s nice and long but keeps you entertained (and ho**y)

Very VERY gay

I enjoyed the story I DID but the main character was annoying me the whole time with his stupid decisions. I know he is young and was following what he was being taught but have a little common sense when someone on your life is that willing. I’m not trying to give anything away but yeah. Oh and the only thing that kind of annoyed me (no spoiler don’t worry) is him repeating that damn list of I heard that one more time I was gonna scream!

Jay is toxic AF lol

Jay is really sweet, stupid at times with his decisions, but a character that I could root for. I also appreciated the Max and Albert characters. They were very inclusive but in a realistic way. I didn't care for Lu or how she got away with the self centeredness Jay had to apologize for. Mark Sanderlin was fantastic, though I wanted to KMS hearing him read the list a million times!

a joyful experience
