Publisher's summary
Witty and charming, New York Times best-selling author Kerstin Gier's contemporary young adult novel A Castle in the Clouds follows a girl as she navigates secrets, romance, and danger in an aging grand hotel.
Way up in the Swiss mountains, there's an old grand hotel steeped in tradition and faded splendor. Once a year, when the famous New Year's Eve Ball takes place and guests from all over the world arrive, excitement returns to the vast hallways.
Sophie, who works at the hotel as an intern, is busy making sure that everything goes according to plan. But unexpected problems keep arising, and some of the guests are not who they pretend to be. Very soon, Sophie finds herself right in the middle of a perilous adventure - and at risk of losing not only her job, but also her heart.

Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Here is a short, sleek novel of encounters, set in Tokyo during the witching hours between midnight and dawn, and every bit as gripping as Haruki Murakami's masterworks The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and Kafka on the Shore. At its center are two sisters: Eri, a fashion model slumbering her way into oblivion, and Mari, a young student soon led from solitary reading at an anonymous Denny's toward people whose lives are radically different from her own.

At first I felt it was going a bit slow and with all the characters, I lost track of who was who. But I love how with the story you identify everyone and the plot twist I didn't see it coming ! I really liked this book. It is perfect for a light read.

Cute, Funny, Somewhat Predictable
The story, while being fun, witty, and charming, was rather predictable. Not that in itself is a bad thing. The story plays out something like a made for TV teen movie, obvious bad guys, a plot twist, two cute love interests for the main teen character to decide upon. It even takes place over the winter holidays! However, the writing of the main character was interesting enough to see it through, and something that didn’t feel so heavy plot wise was very nice.
I’m fairly certain the narrator is what kept me drawn into the story the whole time. She had quite the job, with many different European accents to cover, including a little boy with a lisp! She was just as charming as the main character and gave life to a full cast.

Such a fun winter mystery romcom! Love getting books in translation. The narrator is good. Although there are a *lot* of accents and she can’t *quite* keep up with them all. But she does pretty well!
