About this listen

The cozy comforts of an English village bookstore open up a world of new possibilities for Evie Starling in this charming new romantic comedy from New York Times best-selling author Samantha Young.

At 33 years old, Evangeline Starling's life in Chicago is missing that special something. And when she's passed over for promotion at work, Evie realizes she needs to make a change. Some time away to regain perspective might be just the thing. In a burst of impulsivity, she plans a holiday in a quaint English village. The holiday package comes with a temporary position at Much Ado About Books, the bookstore located beneath her rental apartment. There's no better dream vacation for the bookish Evie, a life-long Shakespeare lover.

Not only is Evie swept up in running the delightful store as soon as she arrives, she's drawn into the lives, loves, and drama of the friendly villagers. Including Roane Robson, the charismatic and sexy farmer who tempts Evie every day with his friendly flirtations. Evie is determined to keep him at bay because a holiday romance can only end in heartbreak, right? But Evie can't deny their connection and longs to trust in her handsome farmer that their whirlwind romance could turn in to the forever kind of love.

Loved it!

Evie has sworn off men and decided to take a nice holiday in England renting a room and running a quaint bookstore in a small village is exactly what the doctor ordered meeting Rowan was not in the plan. Rowan is instantly taken with Evie after saving his dog now can you convince Evie to take a chance on him so amazing love this book read it!

Roane is a keeper

Part of me wants to give 5 stars across the board, but I know that's too gracious. I did love the escape of this read. After all, what gal who has been unlucky at love wouldn't want to escape to England and find the love of her life without even trying? Imani mostly did a great job especially with the accents. Her voice for Roane was so loving and sexy and Caro so sweet, but I found Evie a little jarring. She inserts herself into the villagers lives ....all to good ends...but Imani's voicing of her made her seem more like a brash American than someone Roane could fall in love with at first sight. It was hard for me to suspend the disbelief on the match in truth. But in the end, because I so wanted Roane to get his HEA, I enjoyed the read. I do think Imani is very talented but I think it's more her voice for Evie that gave me issues than Samantha's writing.

Cute

Samantha Young is my absolute favorite author. I liked this book and the chemistry is on point. It was more of a slow burn than i like, but another great book. Narration was awesome!

Okay Rom Com

Overall, this is an easy read/listen. No real plot point. The main character progressed through the story without any major character arcs. The “twist “ at the end was a little over done. I didn’t think the problem was that much of a problem.

Really Lovely Little Story

This was a really enjoyable little book. All of the characters were really likable and it was easy to fall into the small village life right along with Evie. And of course Roane was absolutely swoon-worthy.

The narrator did an excellent job as well. I loved all of her accents and voices, and she really made it a pleasant journey! Definitely going to check out her other works, as well as the author’s.

Much Ado About You

Evie and Roane
Ahh how much I love Samantha Young’s stories they always make me swoon.
Evie is such a great character her wit and sense of self is something to admire. I enjoyed that she knew what she wanted maybe not right away but she does know what she likes and what she doesn’t and she has morals. She isn’t willing to bend on those.
I know Roane was hiding something I figured it was money. Just from the one night at the bar with Evie let herself be free and she opened up a little too much. I wasn’t expecting the flood that happened that was a little heartbreaking.
I really enjoyed this book and I hope we get the story of the fella who rented out the apartment.
The narration was fabulous. I liked that we get our accents and the American accent too. <3

nice humor and romance.

The characters were funny and interesting. The story wasn't typical but kind of predictable. It was enjoyable though.

Ehhh... Not Her Best Work

The connection between the main character and her love interest was weak and unbelievable. Individually, several characters were well developed. The story was predictable but felt like it was lacking depth all around.

Head Over Heels…

I couldn’t put this down. The narrator, the story, the imagery. It was all beautiful. It made me laugh, cry, and it tugged at my heart strings. You won’t be disappointed.

I shouldn't

I always want to preface by saying I am not an author and I can't imagine putting a book out and someone not enjoying it... But in our culture of frenetic consumption of content... I can imagine the demand on an author becoming too much... And the pressure forcing an author to put out a book like this one. I initially actually loved the book for many chapters.. I was in the mood for a slower, calmer book... And I enjoyed my trip to England, being immersed in this little small town with all its quirks... But when it comes to predicting what's going to happen... I embarrassed myself by saying I was completely blindsided and shocked when it turned into the worst version of a Hallmark movie.... The absolute stubbornness and refusal to listen to reason of the heroine for many chapters over the king of all non-issues....this book wins THAT award, hands down. Let's just say I laughed out loud for several chapters and not because it was a comedy.

Again, I feel like I don't have a right to leave such a review because someone bothered to actually write this book got it published with cute cover art and it's more than I would ever do... So please take my criticism with a grain of salt... I have never put the effort in like this author has. And I love that she has made money selling this book to quite a few people. That's a pretty awesome accomplishment.
