Publisher's summary

A Christmas Hope is just as delectable, the gripping story of an unforgettable battle between goodness and evil in Victorian London - and a lonely woman's search for meaning in her life.

Claudine Burroughs, a volunteer in Hester Monk's clinic for sick and injured prostitutes, no longer expects closeness with her coldly ambitious husband and dreads the holidays. Then, at a glittering Yuletide gala, she meets the attractive poet Dai Tregarron, and suddenly her spirits lift. But an hour later, this fascinating man is enmeshed in a nightmare - accused of killing a young streetwalker who had been smuggled into the party.

Even though she suspects that an upper-class clique is quickly closing ranks to protect the real killer, Claudine and the clinic's disreputable bookkeeper, Squeaky Robinson, vow to do their utmost for Dai. It seems, however, that hypocritical London society would rather send an innocent poet to the gallows than expose the shocking truth about one of their own.

Nevertheless, it's the season of miracles, and Claudine and Squeaky finally see a glimmer of hope - not only for Dai but for an innocent young woman teetering on the brink of a lifetime of unhappiness. Anne Perry's heartwarming new holiday novel is a celebration of courage, faith, and love for all seasons.

Awesome

Well written story. Claudine is one of my favorite characters in the William Monk series and Mr. Robinson is one of the most colorful. The story is a peek into Claudine's world . How it works and how she navigates her way through it all.

Loved this one!

I understand why folks say this one is their favorites. Once again Anne Perry weaves a story of characters who are challenged to be brave and to dig deep within themselves to reveal their best selves all in an uplifting story line, rich with descriptive prose that draws the reader in. Happy Christmas and thank you Ms. Perry.

Different yet heartwarming

It seems an oxymoron to describe a murder mystery as heartwarming yet this one is.

Christmas mystery

Ann Perry delights as usual with a cosy Christmas mystery full of great characters. Simon Prebble’s narration is very soothing.

Thoughtful Christmas Mystery

This is my favorite of all the Anne Perry Christmas stories. I listen to them every day from American Thanksgiving TIL Christmas Day. This one would be an enjoyable novelette for any time of year.

Sad but Sweet

A little dry and slow-moving, but probably a more realistic view of the time period than you usually get with holiday historical fiction.

A real snoozer

I really wanted to like this book, but it was so dry and boring. The characters were all so stuffy and there were way too many of them to keep up with in this tiny little murder mystery. I couldn't get past the second hour of this novella.
